As it turns out:

Goose, the assistant region leader for the southeast lives in my wifes hometown of Cleveland TN. I live in WA near Tacoma. His wife and my wife were friends in school in the late 70's.

Cue the singing children.

It's a small world isn't it?

"hammer" and I went to the same high school !!
But he is much older than me so we didn't know each other there.

It really is a small world after all. I have run across all sort of things during my life. While at a USO dance in Providence, RI around 1968 I ran into a guy from my hometown. While at Istanbul, Turkey ran into a guy from my hometown. At the time my hometown had like 3,000 people so that does seem to make it unusual meeting people so far away.

There is a member here who I just learned works for the same company I do. He is in a different office a few miles away from mine.

In 1981, my wife and I went to Denver to see the Rolling Stones concert. I ran into a couple of guys I went to high school with.

I was once in a town called Pickle Lake Ontario, it was the farthest point you could drive to in the province, thats where the road ended heading north. Population was 125 people and the town was mainly a fuel stop for bush planes heading to Hudson Bay. I was there fishing for a week and ran into a guy that lived two blocks away. Its surprising where you will find people you know.

I was at the store this morning two miles from my house, and saw my next door neighbor.

I am from the largest city in the country and since moving, I don't run into anyone I used to know. ::)

How often did you run into people you knew when you lived in the largest city in the country?

Thing is, everyone knows everyone here. Either they went to school with this one or that one, or know the town and the families. It's a bit different. I would be lucky to remember half of the people that lived on the street where I grew up. It's a trip. Yes, it's a small world, that's for sure, but very few New Yorkers move west of the Hudson. South, sure. There are more New Yorkers in Florida than anywhere else outside of NY.
