Mustang seat on a Vaquero

Just purchased a Mustang seat and It squeaks. It appears it rests right on the plastics and Squeaks. I have not installed the Locking bracket as of yet. But I did lift the back up and it still rests on the plastics ( rear fender side covers) not the actual side covers. The outside edges touch. So is this normal? I do not want wear marks on the paint, down the road, thinking I may re install my stock seat at some point. Cuz I may re do it since I have a spare seat now. It came with rubber stoppers under the seat. So I think that is the way it fits? Very disappointed so far.

What are the observations out there?

Install the locking bracket first then see how it fits.

Mostly happy with my Mustang seat for the Vaquero, very comfortable for the rider with backrest. Good for about 4 hours for me, after that I'm ready to get off. If I was buying it again I wouldn't buy it with the passenger backrest, It eats into the passenger seating position and makes it very uncomfortable for the passenger. Removing the backrest gives the passenger more room but then they start feeling the steel socket for the backrest embedded in the seat. The better option for passengers is to buy the Mustang version without the passenger backrest and use the KQR backrest, although the KQR system is very expensive.
I also had to add washers as spacers to the locking bracket. Out of the box the key was hard to turn and release when the seat was locked.

Oh and yes, I know the Russell Day Long seat is even better ;)

Love my Mustang seat on my Vaquero. Very comfortable with the drivers backrest. No squeaks. I also had to add washers to the bracket so the key in the lock wasn't binding when I wanted to remove it

I have the KQR backrest and luggage rack already. I realize I may need to raise the back rest. But I do not do passengers any more. The wifey no longer can ride. But it bugs me that the edges of the seat ride on my paint ((That's is the Squeaks )) At least as it sits, without the washers and the bracket installed. Does that raise it up far enough to stop it from resting on the paint?
And will my KQR still work without adjustment.( no passengers but I do need the rack for cargo.) All the back rest really does is keep the passenger from falling off backwards any way, but it does give me tie down points for STUFF. Like 250 rolls of toilet paper and such,

And how many Stainless washers do you recommend? And By the way thanks for the tip!

I just went and checked the Mustang seat on my Vaquero. I see what you mean, it does look like the seat is touching the rear plastic work. I've done 6000 miles on mine since fitting the seat, if it was going to mark the paint it would of done so by now. I just pulled to seat off to check and all clear, no marks in the paint but I see what you mean.

I'd fit the bracket and see how it looks. From memory I only needed one washer per bolt. I just used zinc washers, doesn't really get wet under there.

I don't have the KQR backrest but YourBassFan on youtube made a video on his Vaquero discussing the KQR backrest and Mustang seat and showing what he did with his. Might be of use ;)

I have the Kawasaki back rest and a Mustang seat. I have to remove the back rest to remove the Mustang seat (don't have to with the factory seat). However, I have not noticed any rubbing or squeaking.

INSTALLED Thank You all for your input. The washers were BRILLIANT, Snapped right in/on, Locked in. Thank You. The Mustang washers that came on the bolts plus 1 extra of mine on each of the 3 bolts. NO one mentioned a total of 2 washers on each bolt to raise up the lock down bracket. Or Maybe I went over board, but The seat no longer rests on the paint. When You spend $350.00 for a brand new Mustang seat you do get concerned. It is pretty hard to sit on but it's 25 degrees F in the garage right now.
On another note why or how would a drivers backrest help on this seat? It feels like the Backrest is built in already. At least compared to the stock seat. My toushy fits so nicely in the seat.

Thank You All

Great to hear Mbarr. Everybody's back is different and in varying states of condition depending on age and work history. For me the backrest makes the seat, just sit back, relax and tour.

The seat does feel hard at first, but it does wear in after 1000 miles or so.

Maybe I will have to try a back rest, I just thought it would be annoying when you hit a bump and you bounce up.

Very relieved to know the seat will soften up some. Man it is hard right now. I do love the way it fits though.

I knew it wasn't just me, Well I hoped anyway. What is it about the seat you don't like? I have never owned an after market seat. So I like to be more Knowledgeable.

I don't find it comfortable to hard and makes the inside back of legs sore after 75-100 miles suffered through 6-7000 miles with it this year

I had a Mustang seat on a previous bike.
It extended the comfort by 100%, from one hour to two :(

Mbarr,
I purchased the mustang seat with the backrest. It provides more support and is adjustable (somewhat) fore & aft by means of set screw. I had a mustang seat previously on my 1600 Classic w/o the back rest. It provides much more support with the back rest. Unfortunately you have to order the seat with the backrest option, it can not be added later (from what I understand). I only have about 20 miles on the vaquero seat, but over 30k on the 1600 mustang seat. No complaints.

Have a mustang on my 1500. I like the seat except if pushes me forward from stock and with the backrest it’s even worse. I have 5,000 miles on it and 4,500 of them without the backrest.
