Bob, That's quite a list, and it took a lot like that one to add to 58,000, a number that still amazes and saddens me. Was this day of particular note to you?

September 7, 1970 was the day I left Vietnam.

Sept 7 casualties in Vietnam

In war, there are lives risked and lives taken

Men and women giving their best to defend what they love

They defend their country

Their honor

Their people

Some call them soldiers

Others call them heroes

Our veterans have risked their lives for us

They have lived through hell and fought with honor

Many have killed

And regret doing so

For every life, there is a soul

For every soul, there is a life

For those who have died, we show great appreciation and remembrance

For those who live, along with them live the horrific memories of battle

Some, memories of defeat

Some, memories of victory

Our veterans were more than soldiers

They were, and still are heroes

Dakals, your post prior to this one was very good and touching. Thank you!

In response to this post quoted above let me say this.

There are 58,260, or more, individual stories that can be told. Here's just a little more information about the story of one on the list I posted.

LCPL Tony Lee Van White, Marine Corps.

Killed in action on Sept. 7, 1967.

LCPL Tony Lee Van White was 40 years old, was married and had been in the Marine Corps for 1 year. That's correct, 1 year!

Had he been a member of one of the other Services prior to that? I don't know. However, I think not since I believe he would have had a higher rank than pay grade E3 had he transferred from another service. I can only conclude that, for whatever reason, he enlisted at age 39 to serve his country in a time of need and he made the ultimate sacrifice.

He is a hero and I salute him along with all the men and women who have served our country.

I agree Bob! Although my 20 years in the Air Force (1979 - 1999) were mostly peace time, I have the utmost respect for those who served during war time.

Hey Bob
You had just left for the big PX when I got in country and moved up into the highlands. I know some folks will think this sounds cold but it true. All of us went to Vietnam for different reasons, but we fought and died, but we did it for each other. It just wasn't our time, not that we were lucky or anything, but you know what I taking about, when our time comes we will see them again. Vietnam stays with us you can't let it go, you can't forget, cause we walk with Hero's and called them Brother.
This is only my view a one time 18 year old grunt.
To all my Brothers past and present Sempi Fi

So many lives were shamefully lost in a war that our country wouldn't let us win and come home sooner. I lost a good friend over there. Bob, I'm sure you lost many. God bless all of our veterans. "All gave some and some gave all".
