Nomad air intake mod

I wanted to help the Nomad breath easier but could not find anything that would fit the bike, fit the pocket book, and fit my taste. So I decided to make my own.

The stock setup has the air coming in under the seat, through the air filter on the left side of the engine, through the Vee, and into the throttle bodies.

The stock look;

First thing to do, cut a hole in the stock cover;

Parts;

Assembled, welded, and painted;

I still need to weld a bolt to attatch the filter and do a little polishing, but it seems to work. Today I went for a 320 mile ride 60 or so miles were on the freeway (65-75 mph), the rest on a highway (55+ mph).

I filled the tank three times, first mpg was 44.8, second was 50.0 third 45.7 Before the mod my mileage was ususally around 40-42

I have not run the bike on my poor man's dyno yet, but I think it has as much power if not more than it had before.

Cost: Filter $53.00
Pipe 48.00
Total - $101.00
I'm pretty happy with my modified intake! :)

EDIT to add: A run on my PMD showed a gain of 5 mph. Still haven't run enough miles to be sure of mileage increase amount, but I know it didn't decrease.

Good Job. I'm guessing the manifold gets the filter out of your way and into some cooler air?

Correct. My knee hits it once in a while, but I'm certain I'll get used to it being there.

You would have thought they would have gotten rid of the stupid crossover set up by now! And, the plastic crossover tube seems way small?

Nice work Ken....it looks real good. I especially like the black paint on the tube! Do you have a fuel processor and have you made any changes to the stock exhaust? I would think those three things combined would really help your power, but they might kill your mileage.... .
