Courageous young man

http://www.wwltv.com/topstories/stor...in.7dd986.html

:'(I thought I'd share this sad story about a very courageous young man who survived an attack from an 11' 500 lb alligator. He will live but has a very rough road ahead of himself. Please pray for his recovery.

Mitch

Thats quite a heartbreaking story and he's a brave little boy to have to endure that type of an injury. Hope he gets better quickly.

Scary for sure and I'm surprised he didn't bleed to death. Those police officers sure saved his life.
Prayers are with him and his family

Wow! I'm amazed that he did make out alive. If gators are an endangered species, I think we're making a big mistake in choosing to keep them around.

Gators were on the threatened status over here until about 20 years ago. They were illegal to hunt for several years. Now, there is a month long season on them and landowners or leasers are issued a number of tags which conform to to acreage and estimated number of reptiles on that acreage. But that's not enough to control the population anymore. We are over run with them. Not as bad as Florida but we are getting there. I will attach a picture of an 8 footer that I had to have removed from the pond in my front yard. The nuisance alligator hunter for our area had to shoot it and then drag the bottom until he hooked him. The notches in the gators tail are identification marks made by the farmer who hatched the gator in captivity. He obviously got away from the farm somehow! My grandson is on the right along with one of his buddies. His buddy is braver than him. LOL

Over run? I had no idea. Here we have rattlesnakes in the hills and mountains; but I've never seen one where I live, and nobody flinches if you shoot one.

And they're not quite that big either!

I've lived here in AZ 9 years and have yet to see a scorpion or tarantula. I know people who have to chase the things out of their homes. At least alligators are big enough they can't hide in your shoes.

Thats a brave little boy, My prayers go out to him and his family. ( I would have been screaming like a girl) When I lived in Florida, we lived along the edge of a swamp, we had to keep bricks in the house by the front door so when you went outside you could smack them with a brick to make it to the car. We never thought much about it, just the area, used to swim with them quite frequently, they make a wonderful dinner!

The meat is great. I have several quart bags of filet alligator in my freezer. Some came from the gator in the picture. We cut it in thin strips and deep fat fry it or make a red gravy and serve it over rice. Wonderful flavor! We don't have to keep bricks by the door here but you can't go fishing without seeing over 20 - 30 in 1/4 mile of canal or bayou. If you have a dog you have to very careful about letting it get close to the water. One bite and your dog is gone! They really need to lengthen the hunting season so we can get the numbers back under control.

I'd like an alligator hide seat for my Nomad, and some matching boots.

I don't know about the seat. Kinda bumpy. But gatorhide chaps might be kinda cool.

Hopefully at his young age he will adapt to the prosthesis quickly and resume a normal life again.
