GPS Interface Issue

My Zumo 660 is acting up, when connected to the factory connection for spoken directions through the fairing speakers.

Everything works as expected when speaking directions. The problem is: it interrupts the radio when not using a destination, poi or route. I just have it on to hear my phone ring,

It just crackles and drops the radio. It usually happens multiple times over an hour ride or so. Rough roads or railroad crossings seem to have no impact.

I do know it behaves the same if it's plugged into the units external jack, or the harness connector that branches off the motorcycle mount included with the Zumo. That would tell me the multi pin mount connection is not the problem. Any ideas?
