Really? I'd figure it would have dropped by now. Mine went down this year quite a bit after going up last year. It's like $372 lump sum, a bit more in payments. I haven't changed my cover either. That said, insurance is a hidden cost on a new bike. For shits and giggles I priced what a new HD, Indian and Kawasaki touring bikes and they all were between $1200-1300 for the first year. A new RT would have been $800 and it's not much cheaper.

You really need to move. Down here it would be 10% of that.

Why is the insurance so expensive up there? Is your car insurance that bad too?

"Why is the insurance so expensive up there" ?

I am sure most Canadians would like to know the answer to that question.

I bought another bike last fall, 1999 HD Super Glide Sport.
I was paying $965 for the Nomad and because I added a bike it dropped to $847 but the are also charging me $871 for the Super Glide.

Had my motorcycle license since 1972, no claims, no tickets.

You CAN'T get a permit to carry so if you do you're a criminal!

Even finding a range to shoot is almost impossible these days unless you don't mind driving about 1 hour each way and pay the several hundred dollar annual membership fees.

Like I said, move south, especially if you're retired. Lots of canadians winter where I live. I bet it's more than just the weather.

Actually it is cheaper than what you guys seem to pay in Ont.
Off the top of my head, but $564 for the plate which includes the gov insurance plan and $400 tax in for fire, theft, collision, public liability and road side assist.

It may not be perfect, but you don't have to worry about others on the road driving without insurance.
