Trying to keep a cooler from sliding?
I found a small Igloo cooler that fits the luggage rack. I have a net and a couple of extra straps to hold it in place. The typical cooler plastic will slide off the rack in a heartbeat as soon as things are released.
Brilliant idea #1: I have a mouse pad that just fits the bottom of the cooler. Glue the mouse pad to the bottom and it provides just enough friction to keep things from sliding. Failed! As soon as I put the cooler on the rack, before I even got it tied down, the mouse pad came loose. I do not want to drill holes or otherwise mount the cooler permanently. All I want is something rubberized, like a mouse pad, to keep things from sliding around when I take the net off to get at my water bottles. So what do I use? Is there a different rubberized product designed for what I want to do? Maybe I used the wrong glue or adhesive? Is there some kind of rubberized covering to put around the cooler that might work? Any ideas will be appreciated.

If you have enough beer in the cooler, it won't slide! Just kidding. That's a good idea with the mousepad.

Trying to keep a cooler from sliding?
How about some of the rubberized shelf/drawer liner? All you're looking for is something to bite on both surfaces to keep the kooler from slip sliding away.
Or, maybe some of the rubberized "dip coating" used on tool handles and painting the bottom of the cooler with it? |

Mark, The rubberized toolbox shelf liners, sold at Sears last I knew, will work fairly well. Much more of a grabby surface than a mouse pad. May not glue to the cooler though.

Also, they make some coolers that are flexable and are zippered (no lost lids), I moved my helmet locks on the back of my back rest, then lock the handle of cooler on there. if I find the link on where I got mine I will post it

Try using contact cement to glue the mousepad on, or the two way tape that holds bodymolding on a car. Use could even use velcro on the bottom of the cooler but you would see the velcro mounted on the rack when the cooler is not mounted.

Cut some rubber hose material to fit the "ribs" in the rack. Cut a lengthwise slit so the hose fits over the rib. Secure if needed with zip tie. Easily removed or can be left on.

I like the suggestions, thanks guys. I'll go by the store on the way home and see what I can find. The shelf liner and small rubber hoses sound promising. Never even thought about them.

Mark, How about purchasing a can of spray undercoating and apply it on the bottom of your cooler? I think that would work great and it should outlast the cooler.

this is what I use, its soft and it came from Meguiar's with detailing products and is insulated to use as cooler. I also use it as storage for quick access things as hats gloves, etc.

Pull over in a nice place. Drink all the beer. Throw the cooler away. The future always brings about better ideas....
