Lane splitting is safe.

They passed a law allowing lane splitting here last year, but the governor vetoed it. Still, I doubt I will attempt it when riding across California later this month.

Don't think it's for me. I envision some wise guy opening his door just before I pass by. :(" title="" border="0"/>

I was in San Francisco a year or so back for a week. I saw a lot of lane splitting, but it was mostly guys on KLRs and Sportsters. I didn't see many full dressers attempting it.

Around these parts it is a sure way to get wedged in between Bubba's pickup truck and whatever is beside it... :-/

Some of my 4 million neighbors feel that defensive driving means defending their place in line and they will be damned if anybody is getting ahead of them without waiting their turn.

that's why bikers in California have "window beaters" hanging on the end of their grips.

I have seen it done in Birmingham and even Huntsville. Not something I want to attempt.

Dave and I can do it with our eyes closed. Only because we could end up in traffic that's not moving for an hour in LA...

My wife and I were in a situation like that on I-75 going to Gatlingburg, TN and coming home from. Start and stop, sit then the same thing over again. Must have been tied up at least an hour. If I had been on the Nomad I may have been tempted. Didn't see any bikes while this was going on. Don't know that any tried it.

No thanks. I did it a few time while I was in LA last year. Scared the crap out of me.

Like Scott said, it would probably be a different story on a smaller bike.

I've done it on a Gold Wing out in California with my wife on back. Yeah, it'd be easier on a crotch rocket, but was fine with the GW. Just go nice and slow, and I think the people in the stopped cars appreciate it better when you go by real slow versus the kids on the rockets.

I love it, wish it was legal everywhere. Course, you might want to fold your highway pegs in before attempting!
