What Audio System...

I have been playing with this idea in my head for months. I don't have a front fairing, and don't know if I want one. But, I do want the ability to listen to music while on a long drive. What is the best method of doing this, without a fairing?

I know Kawasaki has the $700 audio package, but that might be a little too expensive for what I am looking for right now.

Has anyone rigged something else up that looks good?

Here is a link to an inexpensive but decent set up that some guys have on their bikes.

I have a 30GB Zune MP3 player. I bought a RAM mount so I can see/control it and I ran a headphone extension cord under the tank and it comes up in front of the seat. I plug the headphone cable into the Zune, then plug in ear buds or helmet speakers on the other end. I have over 700 albums on the Zune, I can go for days without hearing the same tune twice.

That said, I'd really like a fairing with a stereo in it, so I wouldn't have to mess around with earbuds or helmet speakers.

I put together an audio sysytem together for around a $100.00 for 2 spekers and some spotlight housing from harbor freight .I found an amp on ebay to drive the speakers with music from an mp3 player. No problems and sounds great.

I too have been thinking about just adding some speakers, like these http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/produc...fCatId=&mmyId=.

I was wondering if I did that, what mount I could get that would fit my Sony MP3 player perfectly, or near perfectly, and how to hook it all up. A total price of about $300.00 sounds better to me than $800+ for some of the other hook ups that I have seen, and even more if you go with the front fearing. In the long run the front fearing is probably the way to go though.

that's installed on my 1600. Amp is in the saddlebag and I throw the MP3 player there too [along with the cigarette charger]. Remote for on/off and volume is on the handle bar. Opt for the 250 watt if you can - the player rocks. Speakers mount on the triple tree bolts.

Do you have the 100 or 250 watt?? I notice the use the same one in the video for both the 100 and 250 watt never stating which your actually listening too.

I've got the 100 watt with chrome speakers. At 70mph one of my mp3 players is a little too soft - my zune is pretty beefy so volume is fine. The only drawback for mounting the unit in the saddlebag means I can't change stations. Since I listen to MP3 all the time - not an issue for me.

Just get a RAM mount and run a headphone extension cable from the RAM mount to the amplifier. Then you can have the Zune up front so you can change music or turn on FM radio.

Just wondering, do you have some kind of connector so you can unplug things and remove the saddlebag easily?

These, maybe?

Somewhere at home, I have a link to a how-to on building motorcycle speakers using those little 2" driving lights like they sell at Walmart. I'll try and dig it up when I get home tonight.

Cactus,

yes, I've got disconnects in the saddlebag so I can remove fairly quickly.

I've heard stories of people wiring stuff inside their saddlebags and then they have to unwire things to remove the saddlebag. I was just curious. Sounds like you're ahead of the curve.

I guess you could use a trailer plug for disconnecting the stuff in saddlebags. It would save a lot of wiring connections.
Thats one main reason I like the fairing, it gives me a place for the stereo.
