I thought Orofino was an excellent rally. The hotel and staff was top-notch and the surrounding area had lots of great riding. Crescent City was also good, but a little too damp and clammy for this desert rat.

Probably my least favorite rally was Mesquite. It was hotter than seven hells and it being one of the very first rallies...well, let's just say we learned a lot from it. Having said that, I'd love to go back to Mesquite in the spring or fall.

Not a western rally per se, but it is west of the Mississippi - is the annual Antlers rally in Oklahoma hosted by Vic "Nightmare" Golubowski and his wife. Lots of real good riding in the Ouachita mountains of eastern OK/western AR.

The Cortez Rally offered a lot: Small town and easy walk to eateries. Great Rides: Million Dollar Highway, Mesa Verde NP, Arches NP, Canyon Land NP, Monument Valley. Good hotel.

If I had to pick a favorite it would be Kanab. The ride to get there was outstanding.

Bill...that might be your favorite of the ones you made. I liked Kanab too, but Canmore Alberta, Crescent City and Orofino were all pretty epic. Just Sayin'...😊.

The ride to get there is always dependent upon the time you have and the distance. Many of these have been super slab to get there without taking forever. When I'm retired, I can take a week to get there and a week to get home. Until then, get there fast to enjoy yourself.

I hear you. Out of the 2700 miles we rode on the Red Lodge trip...1300 of it was Interstate slab riding. It sucks for anyone...but you do what you gotta do....

I have been to those places and while nice, I will still take Kanab. My Second choice would be Orofino as I took 30 days to get there and get home. I don't think you made the Nat Rally in NC or Alters, but those are also nice. Just saying

Bill, everyone has their favorite rally location and reasons why and their all different. Crescent City has to be one of my favorite after getting there. The ride there wasn't anything special. Red Lodge is up there as well as Kanab and Cortez. Missed Orofino because of health issues but that one with the route we had planned would have been one as well.

I can't wait til I have the time to take a month to do a trip to and from a location. Darn retired people holding our expectations up there.

top reasons why i may trailer to the Dalles next year for the first time in my life.

1. 1100 miles of slab riding to get there.
2. i will be 70.
3. since Kathy can not ride pillion that far she has always followed a day later in
the car.this doubles the cost of food, logeing and fuel.
4. did i mention that i'm old.

Those are all solid reasons Bob...especially the one about being old...😊. I say that tongue in cheek because Gene has 16 years on me and I know I couldn't keep pace with him. I actually need to get off the bike to take a leak...😂😂😂.

For me, going to/from The Dalles it's ~1400 miles each way, and probably 90% will be slab in order to make time.

They are changing our vacation policy the first of the year. We are going from earned vacation (I currently have 4 weeks) to flexible time off. As far as I know, I should be able to get the time to go to Oregon, but have no idea how this new policy is going to work out.
