What is this wire in my rear wheel hub?

I took the wheel off to get whitewalls put on and as I was cleaning up to regrease everything this wire came out from where the spline part is in the hub. What is it and is it supposed to be there? It's not even a full ring

Item 92033a is described as a snap ring.
A snap ring usually goes in a groove to stop something from coming out from where it is supposed to stay. The item in your photo appears to be a lot smaller than I imagine the snap ring to be. The snap ring is as big as the cush drive in the parts diagram ?

The snap ring is described as being 220mm in diameter ?

What is the part in the photo made of ? Steel or rubber ? There is an 0 ring in the parts diagram, item 671.

An 0 ring is made of rubber.

Yeah the 92033a snap ring looks like it holds the 42034 Coupling in (looks like it's there in the photo when I zoom in) Could the smaller one be item 671 (80mm O-ring)? Like maybe it's a wire inside the O-ring and the rubber disintegrated or something? Or the previous owner didn't have an O-ring and put a wire in there instead?

I don't think your part is 92033A in that parts diagram at all... I think it's 92033 in this final drive diagram?

92033A is a lot bigger, and you can see it shown clearly in your picture, holding part 42034 in place.

What you have there looks like 92033 from my link above, which seems to be a snap ring for the groove in the outer of 92046A?

It doesn't really seem like any kind of snap ring I've ever seen. It's really flimsy and flexible with almost no tension and doesn't have any of the typical snap ring plier holes or anything. I'm leaning toward that O-ring (Part 671). I have a service manual but it's only for a classic and doesn't reference the O-ring at all. I thought maybe it might show up in a step by step bearing replacement guide but I can't find anything like that for the Nomad, I'm now searching for the same thing for other bikes, maybe they will have a similar part

I took the Hub Coupling off and did a bit more investigation for anyone curious.

The O-Ring (#671) is the blue arrow and it was in good shape so I didn't need to "by a new one just in case"

The 92033A Snap ring is what holds the Coupling in the hub (green arrow)

The 92033 Snap ring in the final drive is for the Needle Bearing which is deep inside the Final drive and I wasn't about to disassemble that just to see.

The wire was cut to the diameter of the red arrow area and doesn't belong there. Don't know why it was there but I just left it out and put it all back together. The wheel spins fine, no wiggle room or anything so I really have no idea why it was there

I'm not saying they didn't help out they gave me ideas on what to look for and I took those and investigated further and found out what all the parts mentioned are. Still couldn't find out what the wire was for, some previous owner must have put it in there for some reason. I was just following up on what I found

It was probably one of those "Shit... what's this part left over" moments that the previous owner had after some sort of maintenance he did - so he stuffed it somewhere it fitted nicely and hoped for the best?

I say - ride it until something gives way, and then with the assistance of the forum, reverse engineer whatever the new problem is when it occurs?

I think it is the spring from an oil seal that was missed when an oil seal was replaced.
