'01 Classic 1500FI start issue

In line at Taco Bell, shut down to wait for order, all's fine. When I tried to start, just cranked over, and over, and over. Temp about 100, bike didn't have temp light, just wouldn't start. Pushed it to parking spot, went in and ate my order, ten minutes has gone by. I'm on the phone with insurance for assistance, hit the starter and "bingo" cranks right up! Haven't had this before and don't want it again.....anyone had this, have any ideas?

If that happens again. Open the gas cap if you hear a whoosh of air check the tank vent hose it blocked.

You may have a worn ignition switch, sometimes the contacts don't make a connection when you turn the key on. You have to hear the fuel pump whine for a couple of seconds, if it doesnt, the bike will not start. If its a carbed bike, I'm not sure if you will hear the fuel pump, but it could still be the ignition switch. This is a fairly common issue on some of the older bikes, as the switch wears over time and use.

With the information provided, it does sound like a venting or vapor lock problem.

There is also the fact that at 18 years old, the fuel pump could also be getting a little hincky.

Could be the dreaded ignition resistor got HOT and didn't send the correct voltage back to the ECM.

What MAS Said! Coils could be getting hot also. Gotta realize, these things been running their asses off all these years, and they run so damn hot....after a while, heat takes its toll....
Remember vaporlock in the cars and trucks? If your Wa. state, it doesn't get hot enough here to vaporlock anything, unless your bike is waaaayyyy overheating. No temp light, 100 on your temp. ga.? If you got a temp. ga., its 100, vaporlock isn't the problem, more likely coils, a little water in the fuel, fuel pump hickup from being old....could be the alignment of the planets also....if it just did it once....
Or could be the resistor as MAS said....
