Got in a little 30 miler today, which is a shame because the weather was perfect. But I did get my Zumo 450 mounted and wired, so it wasn't that bad of a day.

Hey George James. What part of eastern NC are you located. I, too, live in the eastern NC. Maybe, we can get together and ride. Let me know if interested. Ride Safe.

On which bike? We have to keep a tally.

The KawaTanker . Just put a new to me Zumo 450 on it and wanted to check it to make sure it was working properly. Getting ready for a BBG and Cape Fear 1000 later this spring.

Took the Beemer for about 80 mile ride today. Wind gusts of about 30 MPH made it a challenge at times.

What he failed to mention is we stop at an overlook for a great view of the valley. When we went to leave as I hit the starter button on my Ultra there was a snap sound from my battery and my voltage dropped to 5 volts. My battery has been getting weak for a couple of months and my luck just ran out.

Brad had to push me and the bike around 100 feet through gravel to the road. Once on the road he was able push me enough where I was able to pop the clutch and get it started.

We stopped by Temecula Harley Davidson and I was able to buy a new battery.

Say what you want about HD but their service department was closed so the salesman came outside and helped me swap the batterys out. I don't think any other brand's salesman would have helped.

So the moral of the story is, when you know the battery is going out, replace it. Because it will fail when you're out in nowhere land.

Thanks Brad for the push start!

You should have push him with the Nomad...One leg out on one of his panniers and let your clutch out. We used to do that with pit bikes and the drag bikes.

Rode down to the only station around that has 100% gasoline and filled the Nomad. Round trip was 17 miles.

Today being President's Day and having the day off, I did about a 190 mile ride around the back of South Mountain to Laveen, then through Buckeye and Arlington (just a stones throw from the Palo Verde nuclear power facility) to Gila Bend. Came back on AZ 238, stopping in Maricopa for a bite to eat.

Beautiful day for riding, although a bit chilly when I left the house at 09:30, it was in the low 70's by the time I got back home.

I filled up in Gila Bend and just did the math and I got 44.15 mpg on that tank. Since I didn't take I-10 or AZ-85, the fastest speed limit I rode in was 65 MPH and that was only for 4-5 miles.

You are right Dave, I had a battery go out on me in Ausable, N.Y. at 4:30 on a Saturday afternoon. I called all the shops in Plattsburgh and the only one willing to help me was the HD dealer. He stayed and let all his employees go home. Sold me a battery at wholesale price, gave me his business card with home phone number. And told me if I had problems on the way home to call him, and he would come and pick me up with his truck and haul us back home. I sent a lot of friends his way over the years. (He has since sold the business and moved on to other interest).
That was really decent of him, and without him I don't know how I would have gotten by that day.
