Oil Nozzle 1600

Hi Folks, I'm desperate here, please help. This is deep. Changed oil Friday. Removed oil screen and drained. Heard clunk into oil drip pan, thought it was a washer. Fished around and found what I believe is an oil nozzle: small diameter oblong thing about a quarter inch long. Anywho, continued to service. Finished. Then ran. Have ridden 40 mi. Purring like kitten, but what about oil nozzle at bottom of motor. Could this be from factory assembly, dropped and left to float around in motor? Help, hurry.

A picture would definitely help, there should be nothing other than the screen & spring in there. Any chance this nozzle part fell off the outside of the motor or frame that just happened to possibly be picked up on the road somewhere?

Photo please. Was this in the screen , or outside the screen ? oil nozzle ???

Nozzle Post with Pic

Hey, Thanks for great and fast responses. See post now with pic. Part clunked out with oil after screen was removed. Oil was draining, heard clunk, went fishing, found this in oil. So yes, it came from motor, not screen. Thanks.

Is it hollow or solid ? If it is solid it looks like a roller from a roller bearing ?
Take an end view of it and post the photo.

Yeah is it hollow ? It looks like a case cover pin to me. On the other side, the clutch case has 2 of these pins if i recall. Since there are 2 oil drains back on that side a pin that fell out could get in the sump easy.

What year 1600 is it, and is this bike new to you? Have you ever drained the oil by the screen before? Just thinking if neither you or previous owner(s) drained the oil by the screen then, it is quite possible it was dropped during assembly and has sat there since new. If on the other hand you have had the screen out before, it is a bigger mystery.

Hey. I'm back. Great answers here. This bike is '07 1600 Nomad. I am agreeing with CNC. While the bike, which bought at Harley dealer (trade in) is pristine on the outside, the over tightened oil filter was faded and oil was a little low. The bike has over 11 K on it. I believe it was driven long on the last oil change, although the oil didn't look that bad. I put Castrol 10 40 synthetic in it. Back to the pin, oil nozzle, or bearing theory, I don't believe it is a bearing. And my thought was indeed it could have been in there from factory assembly. It is a miracle it didn't cause any problems. I serviced the rear end also and the bike runs great. Thank you all for responses. I'm riding it.

Thank you for this response. I totally agree with it. I bought this bike at the Harley dealership, having monitored the 6 k price for about two months on their website. When no one touched it for two months, I offered them 5300. They countered with 5500 and I bit. It was 7 k out the door. Facing the 1200 dollar cam chain repair on my 05 Road King, I am almost over having a Harley. I saw what great bikes these Nomads are, loving shaft drive, water cooling, and reports of soft riding. My wife loves the back seat, although higher than the Harley. With reports of 100 k mi., it was worth buying a used sled I can tinker with, without Harley warranty don't touch this bike.

Macmac, so sorry. The part is solid. I now think it might be a pin out of the shifting mechs in the tranny. But I could be wrong. Fortunately, I have the manual for the 07 Nomad 1600. There are a number of "pin" locations in the motor. Also oil nozzles. (p. 7-2, 7-12, 7-13). We rode 150 mi. today in 85 deg. weather. It was a beaut. Am just going to go for now. I will say this, there is a slight wear bevel and gray appearance on one end (which is solid). Only way to know is tear motor down; I'm not going there. The bike runs well. I did originally think if it was an oil nozzle that some poor part or bearing might get oil starved. Only someone who has been in the bowels of one of these would know how critical these parts are. I'm riding and will cry out again if something goes wrong. You folks are great and I really enjoy the mech. tips and knowledge here. Chime back in if you have any more ideas. Thankyou

I think the Harley dealer you bought the bike from dropped a roller bearing in the engine through the oil filler access hole. He is miffed you did not buy a new Harley from him and wanted the Nomad motor to self destruct :)

I don't think the dealer would do that.
I think he would be happy to get the Nomad off the lot and would not want it back for any reason.
I mean customers would see the Nomad and want that instead of one of his Harleys
