Backfiring 1600 Nomad

I just purchased a 2008 Vulcan Nomad that is black in color. Looking forward to years of enjoyable rides on this one. I moved up from a 2005 Vulcan 800 Classic. My new ride only has 6,000 miles on it and came with Vance & Hines pipes and a DynoJet Power Commander. When I drove it home it seemed to backfire when I was downshifting at speeds above 55 MPH. My wife was following me and said she saw fire!!! Is this something I should be concerned about?
