New member from Ohio

Hi all!
My name is Mike and I'm a new member from Cincinnati. I recently bought a used (1999) Nomad with only 10,000 miles on it and I came across this site while searching for some tips and ideas to add a few things to enhance the bike even more.

My wife and I have done a few short road trips to Indianapolis and Columbus - awesomely comfortable ride - and after having a Harley and a Suzuki, I have quickly come to be sold on the Vulcan!

Looking forward to learning a lot from this forum and taking some longer trips down the road.

Welcome from the Akron , OH area. I'm sure you are aware, but the 99's are notorious for having a plastic oil gear (POG). This was a "design flaw" that plagued all 1500 model pre year 2000 vulcans with the exception of the 99 drifter. Many have gone without a problem, but those who have had it fail have had the very real potential of major engine damage and failure. Do yourself a favor and check with Ma Kaw to see if yours has had a steel oil gear (SOG) replacement. If not consider a Judges Oil Gear (JOG) as mandatory winter project.

Again welcome! You have a great bike, I loved my 1999. It will give you years of enjoyment, but oil gear failure will cause you a real headache. Just an FYI.
