2016 Vaquero oil FILTER

I have read the posts for recommended oil filters for 1500 and 1600 Nomads. I have a copy of "Gadget's" recommendations for oil filters but they are not for the 1700 motor. I had a 1600 Nomad and used a Puralator oil filter. Does anyone know Vaquero 1700 oil filter recommendations that spec out to the OEM oil filter requirements. I would rather not use a K N oil filter have heard bad reports.

Biggest thing I recommend is one with a nut on it. Seriously I had to punch a screwdriver though the filter on my 600 mile change. Scary as crap on a brand new bike. I have used Hiflofiltro oil filters HF 303 for some time. I went to the HF 303 RC ( It has a 17MM nut on the end of it) Best ??? don't know ,Just use them and Change oil often. Used HF 303 on My1500 classic for 10 years and now on My 1700 Vaquero I use rhe RC (nut on the end). I sleep well at night. I guess if you do not have any major engine problems they all work well.?? Had 42000 miles on the 1500 no issues. It maybe like asking what Oil is the best. Don't get everyone started on this topic.

This is just what I use, not a recommendation. My local shop carries it and it filters the oil. I like the fact it comes with a plastic cover over the opening. Maybe they all do as far as I know.

Back to your original question (I think)

The part number per Ron Ayers web site for a 2007 1600 Nomad and a 2014 1700 Voyager/Vaquero are the SAME.

16097-0008 (Edited to fix part number)

The Gadget reference still apply.
Personally - I have never used the Longer filter on a Voyager, not a lot of room to get my cap oil wrench with a ratchet on the short one.

Hope that helps.

Yep - that's what I had written on my scratch paper - I can't read and type at the same time.
I edited my original post - thanks.

several years ago i started using purolator filters on everything i own because the tests at that time said the filter material was good and more of it than many other brands at lower cost -- to me that is a good choice -- i use the gold one PL 14610 long or 14612 short -- the long is tight but works well on the 1700 motor and the cost is @ 7 bucks around here

another good one is walmart brand SUPER TECH 6607 OR 7317 if u want cheap with good rateing -- some folks think a $15 filter is better but not always true

Ditto... They aren't generally available down here except as the straight HF 303 model, but I buy the HF 303 RC in pairs off Ebay to save a little in the shipping. They work out same price as the cheaper model bought in local stores that way, and that nut on the end is nice when it's needed.

What everyone else has stated: If further confirmation matters...

The same filter references will work on the 1700 engine.
We use either the PL14610 or the Bosch 3323 on our Vaq's.

I've always liked purolator, but my shop only carries k&n or fram for bikes. I like the k&n, but expensive. Got a frame too, but hesitate to use it. 1700 filt e rs must have back flow valve to allow sp to build top end pressure.

purolator is not easy to find here either -- we have PEP BOYS at 2 locations and they stock them for sure

Thanks for the info. I guess I will go back to the Purolator on the Vaquero. They worked well on the 2007 Nomad for 10 years.
