HUSH-WORM

I don't pay much attention to random Internet based virus warnings but this one came from our IT Dept. this morning.

'I just wanted to send out this warning about a new virus that has been announced today by the major anti-virus vendors.

It’s called Hush-worm and it comes attached to an email with the words “YOU CAN HELP FIGHT TERRORISM” in the subject line. IF YOU GET THIS DELETE IT IMMEDIATELY!! DO NOT OPEN IT!!

Symantec is reporting the virus comes from Iran or Syria and is a response to the Stuxnet virus that attacked Iran in November. The Department of Homeland Security has said that this “is the first volley in a new age of Cyber-warfare.” CNN has reported that this virus launches when you open the email and automatically infects your computer. The virus will randomly wipe out the zero sector of your hard drive, preventing the computer from being booted. It also forwards all your personal information found in your cookies (such as credit card numbers and social security numbers) to servers in Libya and Pakistan and deletes all pictures and music in your “My Documents” folder. Microsoft declared that this is potentially the most dangerous virus they have ever seen and there is no known way to stop it at this time.'

Thanks, I'll keep my eye out for it, so far my current antivirus (Nod32) seems to catch everything in time.
