On the fence

I'm getting close to needing another rear tire. I'm on the fence of getting WWW or going to a rear car tire. I really like the Dunlop tires. Will you guys with a solo set up and WWW please post a picture of your bike? (non-solo with WWW is good too). The more I see the better. Not really sure what CT size I would need on the 1500. I want to keep the rpms the same. It's about 2mph slow on the speedo with 150/80/16.
Thanks,
Zoom45

Well if you decide to go with a car tire here are a couple of numbers for you.

Compared to the 150/80-16.

195/60-16: The diameter will be approximately .24" smaller. Revolutions per mile will be 7 more.

195/65-16: The diameter will be approximately .58" larger. Revolutions per mile will be 16 fewer.

These numbers can/will vary slightly from one tire manufacturer to another.

No; I never have, I take passengers from time to time so I leave the seat on. Also I wouldn't be able to manage without the beerbox. Its the handiest thing on the bike.

Zoom,
My 2001 carbed 1500's speedometer operates from the front wheel. I'm pretty sure your 2000 does also. Unless you're changing the size of the front tire, I wouldn't suspect the mph reading would change. IMHO.

Your right (didn't even think about that) but the rpms will change if the tire is a different size. I want to keep gas mileage the same or better (can't get much worse).

You might want to consider the Vredestein Comtrac. You can get it in 175/75-16 which is .88" larger diameter or 185/75-16 which is 1.48" larger diameter. Again, both compared to the 150/80-16. Both of these would reduce your rpms and maybe increase your gas mileage.

I don't understand how any tire regardless of size would increase or decrease gas mileage. The way I see it your speedometer might show you are going more miles than the bike actually has gone. Or you might see the speedometer showing less miles than the bike actually traveled. I would still see the engine getting the same miles per gallon regardless. Educate me on this one please.

Smaller tire turns faster. This may explain it (for a jeep but the same formula applies)

So Bobby, the larger the tire size the less RPM's the engine turns. That would then account for more miles per gallon if the engine has to work less. Am I correct in that asumption?
