Coolant Leak
While finishing up my coasters install I pulled the tank to remove all of the hoses involved.
While doing so I decided to take a look around to see if anything looked out of place. Sure enough I found this... It seems as coolant is coming out of the area where the plastic filler neck and the aluminum body meet. So my question is...is this "one" piece or two where as there is a gasket between the two parts? You can see some coolant just above the hose clamp in this picture. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

That's where the thermostat lives. Those two bolts hold the two halves of the housing together. There's an o-ring seal there. Look for #92055 in the parts diagram.

Looking at the bolts in the picture, it looks like it would be two pieces. Mine was leaking at the upper left hose connection. I replaced the spring clamp with a screw clamp and it stopped. Have you tried snugging up the two split line bolts just a little in case they may be loose. The 1600 is notorious for having loose coolant components, including the radiator drain plug.

I personally wouldn't worry unless it was leaking, not just leaving a bit of residue near the seal. The throttle bodies underneath it are clean, so it's not really leaking is it?

My hose connection leak was very minor. Just enough to build up residue and give off the ethylene glycol odor that I smell everyday at work.

Looks like that O ring might be letting is seep out. I guess while I am at it might not be a bad idea to change out the thermostat while I am in there...couldn't hurt and might save me the trouble later. UTAH Prior to taking the pic I did wipe off some coolant in the frontal area. From time to time in the past 3 or 4 months I was smelling coolant and did the basic looksies to find it but didn't tear the tank off. I feel I might as well take care of it now because it will only get worse. The overflow container was on the low mark, last time I did a coolant change (5 months ago) I filled it just below the high mark, so she is loosing coolant. The bike has been running a bit warm lately so maybe the thermostat is going bad or just not working like it did when it was new. Thanks Guys

Unless the O ring is damaged you could spread a thin layer of silicone on the housing and reuse the O ring. That should seal it up for you.
