cleaned up my handlebars

Well I finished cleaning up my handlebars this week. It started sometime ago with the ISO flame grips with red and gold accent rings.

Just need a little extra something since the grips made the switch housings and master cylinders look a little plain. I got some show chrome switch housings form cruisercustomizing and some Kuryakyn master cylinder covers from my local dealer. The covers went on easy no problem and are held down by the mirror arms. The show chrome switch housings were not a direct bolt on. The left side was pretty simple just a little filing with the dremel tool. The right side required the throttle cable holes to be drilled out and some filing to fit the kill switch. Also some filing to get the housing halves to align up. Extra set of hands would have been great since the switches have small parts and screws. Really have to pay attention to the orientation of the parts especially the horn and starter buttons. The kuryakyn chrome levers were also a fairly easy install.

Very nice. That settles it for me. I like the flame grips, but have been procrastinating. Gonna go ahead and order them for the "other" bike. Good looking set up you have there!

Very nice. Doesn't it just grind your gears when stuff that is supposed to be a "custom fit" for your bike has to be altered or adjusted to make it fit? Nice looking results, though.

That's really a great look, amazing how much that changes those bars. Damn, and I thought I was done for a while!

Well, I did expect it since the cruisercustomizing site had some buyer comments that warned about the modifications. You would think there would be something in the instructions even if it was an addendum. The filing is to be expected since basically show chrome is using an oem part and just having it chromed so it makes things a little tighter. It was worth the effort. I look at the kuryakyn switch covers on another bike and I did not like the look. I could only find the show chrome switch housing at cruisercustomizing which had them in stock. All the other vendors that had lower prices didn't have in stock and were backordered.

I was a little concerned the kuryakyn master cylinder covers would vibrate since they are only held by the mirror. No problem at all. On the inside of the cover the is some foam tape padding to prevent it.

Rewindgy bring those parts on down and we'll get it done.

Just remember us southern folks need something else to do like polishing chrome for those non-ride days. ;)

Yes, that is the downside of the chrome levers, you lose the adjustable wheel. It's not too bad, I would say the new chrome lever angle is about the same as the middle (3) setting on the stock levers.
