Corvette Enthusiasts thread...

In the coming month or two, I'll be on the lookout to buy a 1996 C4 Corvette Collector Edition.

After raising three kids and putting them through college, I figure I owe myself.

Anyone here knowledgabe of vettes and can give me some things to lookout for on the 1996? I know the Optispark is something to keep an eye on on the C4's......anything else?

Also, if you are a Corvette owner, post a pic here. I'd love to see it.

TIA,
Trip

Trip, I have a co-worker that restored a stingray. He is pretty heavy into the vette world and has won a couple of awards for it. I put in a word with him for places that he would recommend for you to get the information you are looking for. I will let you know what he comes back with.

Ok Trip,
Here is what I got from him. I hope this helps.

I used the forums.corvetteforum.com website. They have the forums grouped by the corvette generations (C1-c6) and there is a wealth of information and if you don’t see what you are interested in you can also post a new topic and the guys there are really good at giving good information. Under each generation of corvette forum they have separate forums for General questions, For Sale or Wanted , Parts for Sale or Wanted and Tech/Performance, so it is really easy to find what you are looking for. I think it is the best source for corvette enthusiasts.

Thanks for the info, OP. I'll take a look.

Nice vette, Oldbikers. I didn't know you owned one.

I contacted Corvette World out of Dallas. They were referred to me by several vette owners I know. They have a good reputation for finding good corvettes at a decent price.

I'm having them look for a 1996 C4 Collector Edition, Silver with red interior. -or- a 1996 black convetible with tan top and tan interior.

They're looking and say they probably will have some for my consideration in a few weeks. We'll see how it goes.

I don't have a corvette..but I did a numbers check and I do have a 1963...327cu.in. 325hp corvette engine. I rebuilt it about 10yrs ago for a project I was going to do. Its all chevy parts except cam, intake and carb. I only put 2000 miles on it. Its still waiting to go into a project some time down the road...Bdog

Bdog that would fit nicely in my 49 chevy truck. Too bad I plan to keep it stock. Alot of people are trying to get me to hot rod it. It's a 3/4 ton so I would have to upgrade suspension or anything. I thought it would look cool stock with my Nomad in the back.

OP it will be hard to keep it stock if you plan on driving it much those old Babbitt engines were only good for about 50 mph if you wanted them to stay together

Trip, As mentioned, dive head first into Corvetteforum Go to the C4 forum and start reading. Lots of information there.
Also, contact your local Corvette club. Talk to the tech director as well. Sit in on a meeting.
Find out your local indepenant local Corvette repair shop. Talk to them and ask if the do pre purschase inspections.
Be patient. The right car is out there and you will find it.
Seperate 'modifications' from 'upgrades'. Replacing rubber brake lines with braided lines are a 'upgrade.' This is good. Changing 12 inch rotors for 13.7 inch rotors is a 'modification.' How much does this contribute to the price and you truly NEED this?? It's your buck...

Enjoy, they are amazing cars. I had a 69 Coupe, 350 - 300hp, 4 speed and factory side mount exhaust. I accepted its faults and shortcomings; therefore I spent more time enjoying the car.

Thanks rflnomad. I've enlisted the help of corvetteworlddallas.com. They are currently hunting down what I want. They were referred to me by a friend.

2001 Corvette convertible, black with tan top and tan leather interior, automatic, new brakes and rotors.

This car is in excellent condition, has 67000 miles, and is priced to sell quickly.

I will consider taking a trade, although I am primarily considering either a Honda S2000 or a BMW convertible.

I will try to get pics up in the next day or two. Please call 512-990-4757 if seriously interested.
