The Gumbo is Cooked

Just finished cooking the gumbo. 11 lbs of boneless/skinless chicken, 10 lbs of homemade smoked sausage, and 4 dozen of eggs dropped in a 5 gallon cast iron pot. It will cool this afternoon and be packed in 3 gallon plastic containers on ice for Friday. It's always better after it's chilled and reheated. Will make the potatoe salad and cook the rice at the Riders Rest. Barbeque and gumbo, what a combination! We'll be pulling out at 05:00 tomorrow. Eating lunch at the Queen Willy and should arrive in ES ~ 18:00. Looking forward to seeing the old friends and making new ones. Ride safe everyone.

The Gumbo is Cooked

Sounds great! Wish I had some right now. Just finished checking over the bikes, oil, anti-freeze, tire pressure, lights, etc. Got the replacement driving light for Liz's bike yesterday and replaced the lens. Copied the ICE and Waiver forms and filled them out over lunch. Packed my clothes bag early this morning. We should be on the road sometime around 8:00 am, 335 miles for us, 5 1/2 hours riding time give or take a little. Should be there around 2:30 - 3:00.

Can't wait Mitch, sounds wonderful! Cleaned up the Bike last night and started packing. I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone, taking some great rides, and having fun!

Cooking for an army, huh, Mitch.

Cheryl and I, along with our son Richard, are trailering up and I am guessing we will get there about 8pm.

Staying in the Country Manor, next door to Riders Rest.

I did not get time to finish installing bling. I vote we have a tech session and install a TFI on my bike. :)

Look forward to seeing old faces and some new ones.

Bill

Sounds good. I don't think I have ever had gumbo. Looks like I am in for a treat. We are leaving about 8:00. The wife has a patient to see. Hope to make it to Queen Willy about one. See you all later.

Lookin' forward to it and meeting everyone! We're leaving at around 6:00am tomorrow and the GPS says it will take 10hr 30min or so to get there. (I can't believe there are people who have never had gumbo!).

The Gumbo is Cooked

I had some shrimp gumbo this week at a favorite seafood restaurant. But, I know it won't be as good as yours, Mitch.

To all that are traveling tomorrow...be safe, take your time...stay hydrated and arrive in Eureka Springs safely.

I'll be leaving at 9am in the morning. Will be meeting Mitch/Darlene, LW and possibly Victor at Queen Willy at about 1pm for lunch.

We should arrive in ES about 5:30-6pm. See you guys then.

Ya'll have a safe trip going and coming. We need to do the Birmingham ride later on. I was going to keep tabs on you from work but today they blocked the Kawanow site. Been tracing wires to figure out my problem but so far it has decided to start running fine again. I found my ignition fuse may have had a bad connection. When I pulled it out one leg broke and stayed plugged in. Replaced it and went for a ride but it stumbled one time when doing about 75 on the interstate. Picked back up and is running fine now.

Made McAlester OK yesterday by dark.

Dallas traffic is as bad as Houston's at 3pm' and I got the extra "physical challenge" of replacing the serpentine belt on dear wife's truck in front of the Choctaw Resort just inside Oklahoma. :(" title="" border="0"/> Glad I had alternate tranmsportation to chase my parts. Yes, there IS an Auto Zone on Main in Durant. Nice folks there.
Leaving McAlester for Talihina and the entrance to the Talimena Scenic Drive as soon as I can roust the sleeping wimmins and get their tons of "supplies" packed. :)

Arrived at the Rider's Rest at 8 pm. 685 miles driven today. I'm beat after 15 hrs at the wheel. Left home in the rain and stayed in it until central Louisiana. Rest of the trip was dry and hot. Saw 100 degrees on the thermometer several times today. The fun starts in the morning.
