4-Way Flashers

Yesterday with the help of the instructions on Gadgets Website, I installed a flasher unit and switch so that the turn signals could be 4-way flashers. I decided to install it in the left side cover ala Gadget. The only change I made was that I used a spst switch and used wiring from a set of fog lights that I had. They were defective and the manufacturer sent a new set, so the wire I used was in new condition. The wire was set up to accept two bullet connectors and I had the wires with pre-wired bullet connectors which I hooked up to the Gray & green wires. Since the wiring was meant for 50 watt fog lamps, I figured it was adequate to create this "Y" connection which I hooked to the "load" terminal of the switch. The left over 10 amp fuse with the pre-wired ring connector was hooked up to the battery and I was all set. I put the rocker switch rated at 30 amps on the top of the side cover. The only "Homer" moment "doh" was when I drilled the first.....yes the first hole for the switch and the switch interfered with the gas tank. Made a second hole back a 1/2" and it was fine. Hidden under the seat, it should be pretty much out of the weather...... Yeah, I'll have to do something about that extra hole....I left the wires long enough to take the cover off and I used Velcro to hold the electronic flasher unit to the inside of compartment right next to the Cobra 2000 fuel injection unit. Works great! Could have done it with cheaper parts, but it still was under $30. I bought extra connectors 'cause I wasn't sure what I had lying around.

4-Way Flashers

Installing 4 way flashers is a great idea, a few times Ive been caught in heavy rain and parked under a bridge for a few minutes. I wish I had them then.

4-Way Flashers

I've had the same situation Steve. With all the crap flying up from passing 18 wheelers I would have felt better having flashers myself.

4-Way Flashers

After I converted everything to LED, I hooked up a strobe unit to each signal.
I got the strobe from Autozone. It comes equipped with 4 white bulbs which I proptly cut off. ;)

I have all four flash at the same time now, but that's just a flick of a switch with this unit. Speed is adjustable too.

4-Way Flashers

I've been meaning to do the 4 way flasher mod, but never got around to it yet. I thought I would do a little rewiring and use the park position of the key to turn the flashers on and off, as I think this feature of just turning on the tail light is pretty useless anyway.

Having the strobes looks awesome, but is that legal? I'll have to check to see if we would be able to do that here.

Dave, I carefully chose the word "otherbrand" so as to not offend anyone.
I'm sure you realize there are MANY "otherbrand" MC's. I think there is over 150 MC companies.
What company were you thinking of ?

Update on my 4-way installation. I now found out why you need to use a DPDT switch......

Don't do as I did, do as Gadget did...

The way I hooked it up caused my turn signal into a 4-way flasher! Another Homer moment...DOH..... I'm obviously no expert on electrical but I'm on my way to Radio Shock to get a DPDT switch. The automotive stores near me only had SPST switches.

No expensive damage, but a good learning experience. I'll keep trying 'til I get it right.

Are blue LED's legal? Around here, only the motor cops have blue LEDs at the rear.
