What color should inside of exhaust be?

After I did the debaffle I used a high temp flat black paint and painted the inside of the mufflers. I noticed tonight that mine had a white color to them. Was just wondering what color some of you are seeing on the inside of your exhaust.

Mine are not painted inside, but they are pitch black inside from the exhaust gases.

If your not running super lean, then it could be the high temp paint. They are not all created equal. Cheap BBQ paint comes to mind. I painted the outside of some expansion chamber pipes with cheap quality high temp paint last year, and with in a very short time all the hot spots on the pipes turned frost white, yet did not flake or burn off.

I bet the paint is turning gray. The oils in it dry out hot and can turn gray.

For Mike in FL it was a tight squeeze but I did manage to crawl in and inspect them. Tougher getting back out.

Actually I looked at them last night using a flashlight but today when I looked they are looking more of a gray color.

I guesss I don't have a major problem as it may just be the paint. Thanks for your replies.

The most important thing is knowing the color of your piston crown. You'll have to remove the sparkplugs and really peer down inside the combustion chamber and take a looksie...

Alabama,

I had the same problem....it was the paint. I ended up using just a Rust O Leum flat black paint...now it looks a "natural" black.
