another new guy
hey everyone, from De/pa area.. just picked up a 99 nomad as a 2nd bike/cruiser. ive owned kawasaki's my whole life from dirtbikes to atv's to sportbikes but this is my first cruiser. also own a z1000 currently to fill my spoeed needs.. anyway looking forward to tinkering with it and reading some threads on them

Here's some tinkering for you - the 1999 model year Nomad has a plastic oil gear (POG) that WILL fail. When that happens you are looking at costly repairs. Kawasaki used to repair them at their expense, but that practice stopped after 10 years in 2009. You can buy a specialized steel replacement gear that can be installed without tearing the engine down. Unless you know that the POG has been replaced with a steel gear, you need to inspect it to see if it still has the POG. If you weren't aware of this, I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Welcome from Montreal. It is a good possibility that the gear has already been changed, but it is best to check ASP. 99 was the only year they used the plastic oil gear.
