Reckless fairing/ 1600 riser fix

If you recall from my earlier thread and as most of you know, the Phat II risers won't work with the Reckless fairing with a stereo installed. After long investigation I ordered a set of HD 6.5" pull back risers.
When they came I found that they curved back well enough to clear the marine cover on the stereo, but would hit the speedo nacelle. So, the solution was to raise the new risers up 1" and the clearance is good now. The new risers also put a little too much tension on the brake lines than I was comfortable with. So I took the top tree off and re routed the lines and wire harnesses on the front side of the tree. Then I secured all the hoses and lines so little to no interference takes place during turns.
I was just happy that I was able to adapt risers to work with the Reckless fairing because I couldn't live without pulling back the handlebars.
As far as the spacers go, they take a 1/2" bolt because the HD risers are secured with a 1/2 bolt. I had to ream out the tree holes from 3/8 to 1/2" but that was no problem. As well, I had to use a 12point head bolt to secure the risers from underneath because a standard 6 point head interferes with the neck assembly and you can't get a wrench or socket on it. So, after all the parts were acquired the reassembly went very smooth.
The other adaptation was spacing out my driving lights. That only took 4 new 8mm bolts along with 4- 10mm spacers. This allows the re&re of the front section of the fairing as well as no contact from the driving lights.

Glad you got the radio cover to work with risers. I agree with you, I wouldn't give up my risers for anything.

Are those CWI lights? If so, I have the same lights and I didn't need to add any spacers to them when I installed my Reckless fairing.

Scott,

Yes they are the CWI lights like yours. Your right, they would just fit, but the wire harness was rubbing and the light bucket was so close, the potential to rub from vibration was not worth the risk. Now, I don't have to remove the lights to take of the front section.

Okay, I have maybe 1/4" between the light housing and the fairing, and I do have to take them off to remove the outer fairing. I was just wondering if Reckless has changed their design or something. Thanks for the explanation.

I woud like to see the 1" adapters match the OD of the risers. I am not sure how much I disagree with the loss of spreading the load, but I think I do.

Mac, the risers are actually stepped down on the bottom. The pictures don't show it very well, but the spacers match the stepped down area. As mentioned, these are for a HD and the tree must be recessed to take the stepped down portion. I agree a space the same OD as the visible flange would be nice, but I feel that would have to be manufactured on Bdog's lathe for me ( hint hint John )

Great idea!! I knew it was just a matter of time for someone to figure out how to use some risers.

Reckless fairing/ 1600 riser fix

Kevin, Great solution and great pictures. I'm being told by Reckless that they will have a fairing available for the 1700 in October.

I also cannot give up the risers and know the 1600 solution will be different than a 1700 solution, but it will be similar and your pictures sure help visualize what has to be done.
