So, if it dosen't say "energy conserving" and does say ma/ma2, it's okay? This is all clear as mud, as usual for the internet.

Yes.

And I think the whole Rotella T6 thing is just confusion. Shell just added a T6 multi vehicle version that is bad for bikes. The old Heavy Duty T6, which is what I believe everyone was using is still fine.

Jaso ma2

further info I have discovered.

jaso ma2, means the oil is okay for catalytic converters on motorcycles.

jaso ma by itself does not mean it is okay for catalytic converters.

rotella t6 and t formerly only had a jaso ma rating, although claimed to meet standards for catalytic converters.

shell on subsequent testing decided that they meet jaso ma2 standards and have updated their labeling to include jaso ma2.

however, rotella t6 and rotella t have not received independent certification by the jaso panel, that they meet jaso ma or jaso ma2.

hopefully the earlier motorcycle oils I have used met the jaso ma2 standards. omg

Have you changed your oil yet? I just bought two jugs of this stuff literally thirty minutes before seeing this thread. Frankly I can't see why a company like Shell would go to the trouble of changing the formula of a popular product when they don't have to.

No not yet but very soon, I'm not worried about it. If the bike starts feeling weird or acting up I'll just drain it and put something else in it.

SYNTHETIC to me means no petroleum oil in the finished products.
There are 2 oils on the market that meet this discripition.
Amsoil and Mobil one, both PAO oils.

PAO = polyalphaolefin
There are two American Petroleum Institute (API) base oil categories that include synthetics. The first is API Group IV. The only synthetic base oil included in this group is polyalphaolefin or PAO. PAOs are made by polymerizing an alpha-olefin molecule like ethylene.

My question is, how often do you change the air in your tires?

Good question!! I change mine every time the tire comes off the rim.

Don't worry about the new Rotella T6. I have it in my bike for 900 miles now and it's no different that I can tell, than the older T6. Smooth shifts and no slippage whatsoever.

Oh no I like to live on the wild side and use plain old gas station pump air.
