North Central Rally Sample Route Map

The North Central Regional Rally starts with the "Meet-n-Greet" the evening of June 7th in Savanna, IL.

I have been working on the route maps for the rally.

I have the first day's route map completed; however it had to be divided into three sections since it covered a lot of ground up the Mississippi River. I'll start posting this and other routes before too long so others can see the general routes we have planned.

The attachment for this post is a favorite route of mine that will be one of the elective-routes on Day-2 of the rally for those that want to do a lot of riding, and very little sight-seeing.

This route is a combination of easy to difficult roads. It will include sweepers and twisties. In fact, it includes two particular spots that are considered "must ride" twisties in that region -- and was not covered in the last rally. They are the Mindora Cut, and Wildcat Mountain State Park. I have personally ridden this route multiple times; and it will be the route I will be taking on Day-2.

As mentioned, I will have other route choices for those wanting to have a more leisurely day of riding, with sights to stop at along the way.

Let me know your thoughts. This is a sample map and needs a few adjustments (Like changing the rally name from KawaNOW to VBA). Like I said, we'll post these maps in specific order on the NCR board later as "stickies" so you can easily find them when we get closer to the rally.

Looks like a great route, Greg. I want to go on that one, for sure. This route could be part of a National Rally someday! See you in six months!

It's Wisconsin, not Iowa.

Kris I would like to invite you to join us for our rally. Our area may not be mountainous but the roads are hilly and twisty. The Mississippi River Valley is a very beautiful place and those that have not experienced it are truly missing out on one of Americas most scenic areas. So, can we count you in ? By the way, great job Greg. I cannot wait to ride some of those roads again.

I've looked a bit and cannot find information on the various VBA rallies. I'm very interested in this one, and the route planned is a great one. There are sections of that route that will challenge the very best of canyon carvers.

Someone please point me to where information about these rallies is located. Or, PM/email me some of the information. Our new group, http://iowa-vra.com (Hawkeye Bikers) is certainly close enough to join you, and there are Vulcan baggers in the group.

Fly:
The information would be in the individual region forums. I am not sure that all regions have completed their plans, but I imagine most have.

If I were retired...maybe. I would love to join you guys, but my calendar is full with the SW and NW rallies next summer. Besides, that's just a tad out of my neighborhood...!

Many people think of NE Iowa and SW Wisconsin as just rolling plains, ain't so. One of the prettiest sections of the 'Great River Road' is on the Iowa side between Lansing and Marquette, IA. I've ridden some of the roads for this rally 100 times or more, and have helped host the MWGRR rally in Boscobel, WI for the past 15 years. The route shown is a very good one. I know various back roads along this route that would be a challenge for any of you.

There is even a 'truck emergency bypass' on Hwy 18 just West of Marquette, IA.

I'm planning on being at this rally if at all possible.

I agree Fly... this area has some great sections of road to ride. This map-route is only one of dozens I have prepared; but this was chosen mostly because some of these sections were not included in the rally we had -- so I wanted to mix it up a bit... and also include a few stretches where it wasn't continuous tight-turns -- although as you know... there will be a few them!
