Do you have a power commander or a cobra FI2000 installed? I believe after changing out your exhaust from stock to either a V&H or Cobra, and not adding one of those listed above, the popping noise is normal for that situation. I am sure others will jump in and expalin why this happens.

Or, leaks in the exhaust pipe connections.

It's likely caused by unburned fuel in the exhaust, common after installing new exhaust. You don't hear it with the OEM system. Gadget's site has the fix, worked for my '04, way before I installed a PCIII.

Try a couple of washers under the acorn nuts where the pipes attach to the engine. I had the same problem with my V&H.

You most likely have an exhaust leak at the header gaskets, sometimes it takes a couple attempts to get them to seal.

As they are fairly inexpensive, I would get a new pair of crush gaskets if you didn't when you installed the new exhaust. Check the torque specs for the headers also.

First to do is to plug up the hose that feeds air from the air box to the pair valve. This will eliminate air entering the exhaust ports on decel and will make an improvement in lessening
or eliminating popping on decel.

Exactly, I used the marble method mentioned on Gadget's site and it worked fine.

Is this also the case if you have the Vance and Hines slip-ons with the Dyno Jet PC on a new 2012 Vaquero?

I just installed vance and hines pro pipe chrome full system, made sure all bolts and nuts were tight, engine backfires on slow speed decelerating, 3-1 gear. No backfires on acceleration. Any suggestions????

Do you have an aftermarket intake or a fuel processor? Need more info.

You wouldn't happen to have a picture of this hose would you? I'm trying to figure out where it is on the air box
