Upgrades

So got this 1700 vaquero and it's sitting in the garage. I want to play with it! any cool or must have upgrades for it? I've never really upgraded or invested in accessories for a bike, so I'm a bit ignorant on the subject. Any help would be appreciated. I'm working on getting pipes now and have already heard of the Ivan reflash. Anything else?

The list is endless. You just have to decide what your priorities are.

I guess a better questions would be what website can I pull up my bike and see all the upgrades? I found a couple but not many parts for the vaquero.

I recently inherited a '12 Vaquero from my Dad who moved overseas. Here are a few things that I've found and upgraded/ordered. I just installed the ECU today back from Ivans and I know we've all heard it before, but the bike is no longer the same, it's frickin' awesome now.

http://www.ivansperformanceproducts.com/vn1700.htm
(must have! flash your ICU so the bike runs better)

https://www.freedomperform.com/kawas...mbat-2-into-1/
(my personal preference for aftermarket pipe)

http://chucksterscustoms.com/product-category/air-kits/
(big air kit lets her breathe, and I liked my dealings with Joe "Chuckster" Norris)

http://www.buynowroaringtoyz.com/Vul...p/vaqbar13.htm
(big fan of these bars)

http://www.buynowroaringtoyz.com/Kaw...p/vaq21kit.htm
(this is something I'm waiting to do, but plan to in the near future)

Hope your credit card is ready for a beating!

best thing you will do/buy for your machine is Ivan's ECU flash! hands down I'm sure there are many people who will agree, in the end it really depends what you want to achieve in the end. looks, performance, handling, customizing etc. face book has a few pages for vaquero/voyager owners check those out LOTS of cool bikes on them.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I'm gonna pull my ecu and send to Ivan and add pipes. I don't believe I need a new air cleaner cause I really just putz and cruise so my stock one should be fine. I called Ivan's shop and they were great answering questions I had! Well I'm excited and will report back when bike is done.

If you decide you want better tunes from your stereo, I really suggest getting bigger speakers also, 6 1/2" are an easy mod, just get the adaptors from here. Have meant with Randy in person and is a decent guy. Said I was the only one to get mine from his hand to mine. He is in Ohio and I live in Ga..

Quick question: if I change the air cleaner and add pipes, then do the Ivan's flash would I have to have the bike tuned or does Ivan reflash take care of that?

The flash completely takes care of that.

See previous posts... Ivan's flash is hands-down the best thing you can do for your 1700, whether it be completely stock, or has pipes / BAK, and whether you're aggressive or not at all. The flash improves performance and the fuel consumption, drops the heat, eliminates popping with aftermarket exhausts, and just makes the bike smoother, easier, and more enjoyable to ride. The first thing you'll notice is that it even sounds better.

There are two flashes available, but the first one suits 95% of owners. Ivan offers a free re-flash if you have a BAK and still have ping under hard acceleration using premium fuel. That's only a very small percentage of owners.

I've run my "first" flash with a BAK (Chucksters) and pipes (Cobra) and had absolutely no problem at all, and never saw any need to have Ivan re-flash with the BAK version... Having said that, I currently have a K&N filter in the OEM airbox, and for me it's the sweet-spot. I usually ride long distances, two-up and loaded with luggage, and perhaps more sedately than some of the hot-rodder Vaquero owners who had ping issues... But if you're concerned you should give Ivan a call, discuss it with him.

Very good, Peg! Let me ask the experienced users one more question. Will your bike (having been flashed by Ivan) work the same flawless way if you decide to use your OEM mufflers for a while istead of aftermarket ones?
As for me, I asume I may temporarily replace D&D muflers by OEM ones (or even air kits: stock with K&N/Chuckster's BAK), depending on the moods and trips.
