Melted plastic on mufflers.

Does anyone have a way of removing plastic that was stuck to a hot muffler. I tried oven cleaner and got the plastic off but it left an imprint on the chrome that looks dull. I've tried never dull and acetone and no help. Any suggestions? ?

Get the muffler hot and wipe off the plastic while it is melted. (That's how we used to get melted traffic cones off the mufflers during practice).... Then "Flitz" seemed to bring the shine back for me.

Never Dull will scratch, but it will also clear up rust spots like nobody's business.

Easy Off oven cleaner on cold pipes. Spray it on, let sit overnight, rinse and wipe off. Be careful of over spray.

Works like a charm.

What Steve said: 0000 steel wool and chrome polish and I use WD40 and the same steel wool on tougher spots. I have also used the edge of an old credit card to get some of the "chunky" stuff first.

Thanks for all the replys guys. Like I said the plastic is off the pipes but it left a milky looking stain where the plastic was. I'll try the steel wool and chrome polish, and WD40 if needed.

Also try some lead cloth meant for cleaning firearms.
