Shocks

Okay, this has been around for awhile but I cannot seem to find the answer I want.
My 2008 Nomad needs new shocks on the rear. Stock shocks are so expensive so an after market shock should be cheaper.
I want a direct bolt on, no shimmying,no washers , just a direct bolt on.
Progressives sound okay but they are NOT for metric cruisers(Not a bolt on)
So, is there any other metric out there which have 12.5 shocks that will bolt on the Nomad?
Thanks

How do you tell if your rear shocks are shot?

When the oil leaks out of them or they won't hold air anymore.

Stock length on a 1600 is 13" and this would be a good read, some great info in the first post

Yes I did read this.
However I don't think having the shock floating like that is the answer?
He said the shock will find it's own center!
My question is when?
When the bike is upright?
When the bike is leaning?
I'm not a mechanic but this sounds like a real mickey mouse way to mount shocks. They should be solid NOT aloud to float where they want.
Thanks

13 is stock for a Nomad but if tou want a 12.5 inch shock, the Classics came factory with them and a direct fit replacement

I have a set of stock shocks off my bike you can have for real cheap. Shipping will be a bugger due to their weight, otherwise, drop me a line if you're interested.

Thanks for the offer man.
Yes, shipping would be a killer!
I have an opportunity to buy a set from a wreck that only has 4,000kms on it. (2008 1600 Nomad, just like mine)
I will find out on Tuesday if the price is right.

Hello, I found a pair of original shocks with 4,000 kms. He wants $220.00 for them.
How long does the rubber bladder last? Will they start to leak after I install them?
I know new is a lot more but new has a warranty.
Thanks

The bladder will fail the first time you use a high pressure hose to put air in them. I got rid of my air shocks when I bought my 2013. Some fool blew out the bags. Bought a set of standard shock for $250 adjustable and no more problem.

Pooker,
Have I got a deal for you! I have a pair of take-offs from a 2007 or 8 Nomad that was a couple years old when my friend went down on it. There were less than 25k miles on the bike. The shocks are perfect, OEM air/hydraulic. I originally hoped to install them on my '06 1500 Classic but the 1600s are FAR beefier than the 1500s are; i.e., mounting was -completely- wrong. $150+ frt. USPS flat rate) to you from 98629.
