DON'T RUN SYNTHETIC OIL

Strange you should say that, Trip. My experience was the exact opposite.

My first oil change was Castrol 10-40 dino. Decent performance, but was ready to be changed at around 1500 miles. A clear indicator that I need to get it done (to me) is when I cannot downshift into first from second while stopped.

2nd oil change was 5-40 Rotella synthetic. The engine, specifically the rear cylinder, ticked pretty bad until the bike was well warmed up. And again, after about 1600 miles, I couldn't downshift into first when stopped.

This past oil change I went with Mobile 1 10w-40 full synth. The ticking at startup is gone completely and it also seems to run a bit smoother. We'll see on the downshifting issue...

Odd.

I'm not advocating one oil over another; in fact, I can't, based on my own experiences with three different brands so far. What works for one Nomad may not be the best for your bike (not "yours", Trip, just speaking to folks in general).

Something to keep in mind.

DON'T RUN SYNTHETIC OIL

I would like to start off by saying that I am not employed by Shell.
With that out of the way,...........................I have used "Shell Rotella 'T' 5w-40 Synthetic" for years now.
There was a time that I had 6 different oils in my garage for 6 different motors!
Now use one oil and service my engines regularly, which I think is the key regardless of what oil you use.
I use "Shell Rotella 'T' 5w-40 Synthetic" in every engine that I own, Car, Jeep, Nomad, Snow Thrower, Generator, Cub Cadet, Weed Eater and Power Washer.

Just my opinion.
Just so you know I live in Ontario, Canada.
