DON'T RUN SYNTHETIC OIL

I just changed the oil and went with Mobil Delvac 1300 Synthetic 15w/40. I've only put about 200 miles on it, but it seems to be good.

DON'T RUN SYNTHETIC OIL

Talked to a reputed dealer (3 generations of motorcycle racing and ownership) about oil. All of the mechanics say don't use synthetic in the Nomad. They like the spectro 10/40 DINO in the nomad.

IMHO

All references about autos using synthetic and how good it works is not relevant, due to the fact they don't have wet clutches.

Slippery is the best for engines but no so much for clutches.

I change my oil every 3000 miles anyway so I'll stay with DINO.

My Honda st1100 clutch never started slipping until I started using synthetic.

I do understand the energy conserving part of the label.

I hope I didn't offend anyone...........

DON'T RUN SYNTHETIC OIL

Energy conserving means it contains friction modifiers which shouldn't be used in wet clutch applications. Mobil 1 has oils designated for motorcycles that don't contain the bad stuff.

DON'T RUN SYNTHETIC OIL

+1 for you Terrebonne couldn't have said it better myself, any of the oils that have that ENERGY CONSERVING in that little label on the back of ALL oils (sold in the USA)(I think it is called SPI SERVICES) STAY-AWAY from, "IT WILL CAUSE YOUR WET CLUTCH TO SLLIIIPPPP" hope thats plain enough! Dino vs Syn that's your preference all oils are not what they use to be (Remember the old QuakerState days?) SPI (US Services) or JASMO (JAPANESE Services) do a pretty good job of making sure that something like what happened with QuakerState back in the day doesn't happen again (cross your fingers if you trust the GOVERNMENT) haha! For the the most part (this is my opinion) I think the Syn is just a little extra added assurance over Dino however I wouldn't recommend going over 3000 miles between oil changes on anything that the oil is going through the tranny it's just too hard on the fluids! Amen on the 3000 mile max. However I do think the better Dino oils are improved due to technology nowadays.

DON'T RUN SYNTHETIC OIL

I use 20w50. Seems to turn over just fine. But how cold does it get in Florida?
The dealers in this area are using 20w50 also.

200 miles is a tad short to allow the engine to break in, and full syn will delay that break in.

Anything past 1,000 miles would be better, and passing 1,500 might be best... Rings need to break in the clyinder walls they ride in..

DON'T RUN SYNTHETIC OIL

I used to use and advocate using Mobile 1 20w-50 Synthetic. Noticed over a period of a couple of years that my engine would knock at startup. Switched to Shell Rotella 5w-40 Synthetic. Startup knocks are gone and it seems to run and shift smoother.

Most people use a 20w-50 oil during the hotter months and then switch to a 5w-40 oil during the winter. I think I'll be keeping 5w-40 oil in mine year 'round.

30,000 miles on Synth - Your only fear of slipping should be your finger slipping off the toilet paper in the morning

I noticed the same knock on cold mornings Trip. I just changed to Mobil 1 synthetic 10w-40. Not nearly as bad but still a little knock on cold morning startups. I'll remember all of this next winter.

Next time you change your oil terrebonne, try a synthetic as low as possible on the first number. That gives you your best protection at startup. I went to Rotella 5w-40 because I couldn't get a synthetic in Mobil 1 with the same 5 and 40 rating. I could only find a 5w-30.

The lower the first number the better startup and cold start protection you have....the higher the second number, the better protection you have against heat and normal everyday high temperatures.

Shell Rotella Synthetic has been an excellent oil for me.
