Both, but I find myself canceling more than letting it do it's thing.

Send a message via AIM to Idaho
Once in a while I will let them cancel just to make sure it still works.

I KNOW mine work. I tend to signal early and have to keep resetting it.

Recently new to me is the Vaquero with self canceling turn signals. My first bike with this feature. I cancel them manually out of habit even though my last bike was 12 years ago. I find it irritating when I go to manually cancel the signal and find it already self cancelled. Find myself wondering when it self cancelled and if I made the turn without a signal??!!! Guess I'll have to pay closer attention to the little blinky light in the gauge cluster in addition to the 80,000 lb semi that can't stop and the new driver in the SUV texting his girlfriend or her boyfriend who won't stop!

On the Nomad it is time and or distance related which seems to be a long time after I make my turn. By habit I manually cancel them anyway before the self cancel does it's job.

Yes, the self-cancel is based on both time and distance. I normally cancel it myself, but it is a nice 'backup' in case I forget. Only time I hear it being an issue is with REALLY long turn lanes (you are already in a turn lane, rather redundant) or when in heavy multi-lane traffic and you want over. I figure if I have gone that far while trying to get over a lane, having to poke the blinker again is a small price for knowing it will go off if I forget.

I always manually cancel mine and even my wife's turn signal, too. (Her bike doesn't have self cancelling feature but she has me.)

Mine cancels too soon sometimes. What's hard to get used to is the signals are separated: The left has a paddle switch on the left switch gear and the right has the same on the right with the cancel on the right. Engage both at the same time and the blinking hazard comes on.

I know what you mean Ponch. I had problems when I rode my brother's Road King. It has the two switches and I kept pressing the left one. If I'm making a left turn and get caught with oncoming traffic, I keep activating my signal until I make the turn. I always manually cancel them, because I'm paranoid about riding down the road with my signal on. I hate it when cars do that.

x2 - 10 miles signaling to make a turn. Mine are on and off as quick as I can.

I'm just glad that someone told me that Nomads have self-cancelling turn signals. I thought I was going crazy, and could have sworn that I used my turn signals on several occasions. Huh. Guess I did.

Self cancel, but I always confirm. Don't want anyone pulling in front of me thinking I am turning...i
