Does a small trailer you pull behind the motorcycle require a tag? If so, if it's a homebuilt do they issue a serial number for it and is it required in all states?
Thanks,

I know in Texas all trailers have to have tags if its homemade they determine the cost of the tag by how much weight it will hold

In CT they just recently made it a requirement that all trailers have serial numbers, even home built.

Check with your DMV. Utah does NOT require licencing or registration on trailers that weigh 750 lbs or less. My 5'X10' trailer weighs around 500 lbs.

Even though it's not required in Utah, my friend got plates for his motorcycle trailer in case he goes out of state it won't give someone a reason to pull him over.

The snow machine trainer I built when still living in Idaho needed a plate. Just had to take it to the DMV so it could be looked at and then got a plate for 10 years. Do like wolfy always says, check with your state DMV.

Gee, maybe we need a "Wolfy says..." page.

I found out the state does not require you to have a title if it's under 5,000 lbs but you must get a serial number assigned then you can apply for the tag. I found a form online you have to fill out for a home built trailer. I did this years ago when I built a dune buggy from the ground up. They give you a small metal plate with the serial number to rivit on the frame.
Thanks for the replies.
