Lost my best friend today

Well, the time came faster than I wanted. We had to put our faithful girl Nala down today. The cancer she had moved faster than we thought and last night was painful for her. Had to carry her outside to go to the bathroom last night and this morning. I just hated to do it but she was in pain and the pain killers she was on weren't doing it. My wife and I were with her to the end. Tears rolled and I am not an emotional person. She was the best dog I think you could have. She was smart and well behaved. At 9 weeks she was potty trained.

She loved to ride in the pickup truck. Roll down the window and she was in heaven. Kept her collar and will put it on the motorcycle so she will always have that ride. She is now buried on top of the hill so she can look out over her domain and we can see her from our deck. Our exchange student from 4 years ago was back this last week and we told her that time was short for her and she was sad since they were best of buddies also.

Sleep well my precious girl and I will see you again and we can play more.

I'm sorry, it's never easy to see a family pet go through this. I had to do the same to our 15 year old Dachshund a little over 3 years ago. That was tough. I took the easier way out and had my son in law take her to the vet and be with her. I was working and my wife couldn't do it. I have a Boxer and Maltese now and don't think either could be replaced, especially the female Boxer. She's great and so loyal. Take care and I hope time heals.

waterman, I'm so sorry to hear about this. Growing up on the farm, I had to go through that with many of our dogs, cats, and even horses. Having a pet is a great thing, but it's so hard to let them go. Rest assured that you did the right thing, as you gave her peace. I think that is a great gift, even though it really hurts right now.

Been there Waterman. I cried like a baby when my dog had a stroke and we had to put her to sleep.

Sorry to hear about that Joel, I know it can be rough. Interestingly, we were going to take one of our cats for his final vet trip today but got word last night that our brother-in -law passed away and that has taken precedence (thrown things into a state of distress) for a few days at least. Vicki jetted off to OKC during the night to be with her sister and I'll join them in a day or so.

Hard thing to do for sure waterman. Went through the same thing with the first dog that my family had and fear I'll be doing the same thing soon with our oldest dog.

It's hard, but it was the right thing. I had to take in my cat that had been with me for nearly 20 years...

My heart felt condolences to you and your family. I had to put down my best friend of 13 years last August. It's never easy.

I'm so sorry you had to make that decision waterman, but I know you made the right one. I fear I will be making the same decision before too terribly long with my 12 year old baby. He's my best bud too.
