Self Cancelling Blinkers

Doesn't our Nomads have self canceling blinkers? I could have sworn mine did. I usually bump the switch with my thumb after I turn (habit) but today I noticed they wouldn't cut off on their own. I only noticed this after I installed the Stebel horn but it's only connected to the battery and the horn button. I get the most weird problems and now my speedometer quit working right. I had the cable disconnected and this morning as I was going down the highway a guy was pointing at my from wheel. The cable had slipped out of the stearing head and through the wire hanger then was dragging. Ruined the housing and lost the speedometer nut. Now I need a speedometer and a cable.
I finally found a used speedometer in Georgia for about $25 cheaper than a new one. Guess 'll look around a little more.

Self Cancelling Blinkers

When I picked up my Nomad last week the service guy pointed out the turn signals where like my intruders, that you had the cancel manually. Took a few hundred km before I realized that they actually are self cancelling.

Self Cancelling Blinkers

I have always been in the habit of pressing the cancel button with my thumb after a turn on my '08 Nad....a habit from my VN800 Classic.

You mean to tell me I don't need to do that? If not, how long after a turn will the signal still blink before it self-cancels...??

I never timed it, but it blinks about 18-20 times.

At least the two times I checked it.

I don't know about the 1500's but the 1600's self-cancel. When the signal is first started the Turn Signal Control Relay counts off 8 seconds. It then starts counting distance pulses. When it reaches 213 feet traveled it then cancels. So, you get whatever distance you travel in the first 8 seconds plus 213 more feet.

Yep, they self-cancel on the 08, Kris. Bob just gave the correct info on the time/distance of them, so I won't repeat it. It's a great feature, although I wish they would stay on a little longer, as many times I have to press the switch again because I haven't made my turn yet.

Not realizing they're self-canceling apparently is a common problem. Happened to me too for maybe 1000 mi. Then I had to add a self canceling module (Kisan) to my VN800 for the opposite reason.

I KNEW there was a reason I joined KawaNOW... ! Learning my turn signals self-cancel will go into the "stupid Norwegian" category along with my late arrival to the "heel on board/toe on peg" riding position.. .

Thx everyone!

I agree 100%. I always cancel my signal after a turn. Why rely on a timing device when you can be sure they are canceled by a mear push of the button?
If you get in the habit of not canceling and buy a different bike without the feature, you run the risk of some fool in a cage thinking you are turning and , bang, he pulls out in front of you.
