Never trailer when you can ride. Besides I don't even own a trailer.

There are two types of Harley riders. Those that trailer them and those that push them.

Scott, I will be able to give you an I-40 report for the trip back when I get to Maggie Valley. Present plans are to leave approximately June 3rd going toward Albuquerque and take the boring Interstate. I am going to allow for a couple of days in Arkansas to do Pig Trail and the Ozark area, then move on toward Memphis. May go through Georgia if a friend of mine is going to be around or angle up through Tennessee. Won't know for a couple of weeks yet for last part, the distance will be the same regardless. Probably between 275 to 425 miles per day depending on side trips and screwing around.

Coming back is an unknown for routing. I'm going to go northeast toward Wheeling WV, probably taking most of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Hang a left and work my way back towards Iowa and South Dakota. Might as well go see my folks in the Black Hills as long as I am that far north. After the 4th of July I will cringe and head back toward the furnace we call Arizona.

Scott

From Chattanooga you might consider going around the southern end of the Great Smokies and coming itno MV from the South

At Cleveland, TN cut over to US 64/74 then on to MV. About 133 miles and easy ridding. This rout also keeps you out of Knoxville, TN Traffic which can be very messy even in the slow part of the day

I don't think any other way will get you there faster. That is what I would do.

But, you could also look at going Nth of US 411 and cutting over to Telllico Plains and picking up the Cheroiala Skyway

Too bad you can't stay out until September, and come back to AZ when it's cooled off.

That's what I would like to do, if I had all the time in the world. Leave AZ in early June and stay out on the road until it cools off enough to make me want to come back.
