Stopped in Cooke City for a cool drink and a butt break. Not a lot there but interesting. I'd like to ride over to Little Big Horn Monument if I get a chance. Might make a day ride out of it if anybody else is interested.

As tempting as that might sound (snuggling up against Brad's back) I'll have to pass. Comfort Inn just down the road seems a better offer if I don't make the short list and snag a room. Otherwise the days are booked off and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again.

Tad, I might be interested in going to Little Big Horn on Thursday.

I am thinking about staying in Miles City (ironic) Thursday night so I can do an official Iron Butt Ride on Friday from Miles,City to Portland, Oregon. It is easier to do East to West.

Might depend on how hot it is and how much I drink in Red Lodge.

On the way to LBH we could incorporate that highway 14 that Duffy mentioned.

Is Thursday a possibility for you?
No worries either way. Certainly can wait until that week to decide.

If you're a history buff then Little Big Horn battlefield is quite interesting. What you're "used" to seeing in movies and on TV is not what actually happened. They did a forensic anthropology of the site 20-25 years ago and as a military action it didn't last very long. 250 troops with single shot rifles and handguns against an estimated 2000 braves with a mixture of repeating rifles, single shots and hand guns. Green troops, only one company (the Grey Horse troop) acted in a cohesive manner. Needless to say Custer the Big Mouth got his butt handed to him. As I mentioned, interesting if you like history.

If you have a senior citizen National park pass it is free entry.

I have read quite a bit about it and I think the history channel had a show about a lot of what you are talking about. They talked about recovering a lot of different bullets from the sight. Definitly something I'm interested in. Thanks Duffy.

I went there a little more than a year ago and the Ranger Talk was one of the best I have heard at a park. This guy was great. Don't miss the ranger talk.

Little Big Horn is a cool place. Been there twice. With an early start you could hit Pompeys Pillar off I-94 in the same day. It's not too far out of the way. It has its own unique history and museum, and is where Capt. William Clark carved his initials in the rock in 1806 on his return east down the Yellowstone River prior to meeting back up with Lewis, who was coming back down the Missouri. It is the only permanent remnant of the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
