V&H Bagger Exhaust Mod

http://www.ridethatbike.com/NOMAD%20...FLER%20FUN.htm

Here is a link to an easy mod if you have the V&H Bagger Duals. It is raining here today so I went to Home Depot and got all the parts listed. Probably took me about 45-60 minutes total time including cutting the pieces of flashing and everything.

It was a minor PIA to get the baffles out, but not bad. They went back in super easy. Since it is/was raining, I only had the pleasure of starting the bike in the garage upon completion.

My initial thought was that it was a bit louder, but not TOO much. I find it most definitely has a little more attitude at idle... . Sunday is supposed to be nice here (sunny mid 50's), so a ride is in the works. I will know more after that as far as what it sounds like at highway speeds, accel, decel...etc.

Here are a couple pics of the baffles before and after. BTW...if I can do this.... ;)...anyone can!

V&H Bagger Exhaust Mod

....thanks for the link. Some interesting reading on that site. I have the baffles out of my V+H mufflers now. The packing looks some worse than yours does. I was kinda hoping to quiet down my pipes some. But the tin is an interesting idea! :)

That is going to be my next "big" modification is a new exhaust system. I've taken the baffles out of the stock pipes and they don't sound too bad. I'm going to look at the different exhaust systems at the Rally in June to see and listen to find the "perfect" set of pipes.

I'm running the baffles without any wrap now,I'm going to try this to see if I can get the tone a little lower.

This mod does sound a lot better than stock V&H IMO, and it's been discussed with other options too, here's a link to it.

I'm running the baffles without the wrap now.Would this mod make the tone lower but not make the pipes quieter?

For those with baffles out and wondering what to do next, you might consider this mod per gadgets page. Go to local hardware store and pick up some wood burning stove rope(that you put around the door to seal in the smoke). You will need enough to wrap around the entire lenght of each baffle(could use string to get a lenght idea first), then you tie each end of the rope with SS wire(only need just a little wire). This rope will not burn out very easily at all. I looking to talk with somebody that has done this or will be doing it soon since Im wanting to do mine with the rope. :-)

V&H Bagger Exhaust Mod

Ok...got the bike out for a test run on my exhaust mod during a brief break in the rain today.

My initial thoughts after this mod are this:

1) The bike seems to have picked up a slight bit more torque given the additional back-pressure.

2) It has just a hint of a tinny sound to it.

When I unwrapped the fiberglass from the baffles it was wrapped about 3 or 4 times around. I'm wondering...has anyone ever tried putting 1 or 2 wraps of the fiberglass back "over the top" of the aluminum flashing?

I'm wondering if that would retain the benefit of the additional back-pressure but slightly reduce the tinny-ness by gaining a bit more of the Glaspack sound...?? Hhhhmmm.....

.....I'm kinda thinking of welding a piece of pipe to the front end of my baffles and putting the deflectors in them as per Gadgets page. It seems like a simple mod and hopefully will quiet them down without doing anything to performance. Then put new packing around the original baffle and see what it sounds like. :) \
....I'm not sure what advantage you might get by putting packing on the outside of the tin wrap cause there would be no exhaust able to get to the outer packing. But it may stop the tin from flexing, if thats what is happening, and maybe reduce the tinny sound you claim to have.

You are have the same experience I did when I did my baffles. Too loud w/o the baffles, & too tinny with the flashing alone. Now go & put two wraps of fiberglass back & cover that with your flashing. Not too loud & you will gain some more low end power.,,-Rich

+1. W.N. I could not deal w/tinny sound. Thats why when I need a re-packing Im trying the wood stove rope.
