Worlds longest semi trailer

Saw this at a truck stop in Jackson GA last week. Passing this thing would take awhile.

So they just drive it around burning fuel telling people how much fuel they can save??

I wonder if it is is legal in all states? In Canada I am pretty sure that maximum vehicle length is regulated by the provinces and there is not a nation-wide standard. If I'm wrong, I am sure there is someone on the forum who can tell me.

Maximum length in the States is 100' without a permit. I'd guess that's about what he's at. Maximum length of a single trailer is 53' so the tractor can be 47'.

They recently pushed in more than one province for an increase in overal length of b trains, one tractor pulling two trailers, to 27.5 meters. That is a few inches over 90 feet.

Road hazards are road hazards...........if he passed you six or so times that means you passed him that many also. An error on both sides I'd say. Don't criticize something you've never done.

Exactly what I was thinking. I stay away from those type of drivers, no matter what they are in.

Bucky1313. Staying around him was your mistake. Just driving the speed limit without awareness of the dangers around you can get you killed.

He was at fault, but you could have avoided the situation.

is your suggestion that he should have pulled off the road and waited until he probably wouldnt catch up with the truck at normal speeds?...

That is one possible scenario. There are many hazards out on the road. Recognizing those hazards and takin appropriate action is being a proactive rider/driver instead of a passive one.

"Street Strategies " by David Hough is a good read and keeps many hazards fresh in your thoughts if you read it like a daily devotion.

There are many ways we can reduce our risk when out there on the roadways.

I cringe when I see someone riding a motorcycle the way the majority drive their cars.

Bucky1313, I give semi trucks a wide berth and don't linger around them. If anyone, truck or car is passing me, and then slowing so I have to pass them, I quickly break that cycle by getting away from them. If that means a burst of speed to put some distance, or slowing down to let them move on down the road, then that is what I do.

You can't avoid everything, but you also can't just plod along without regard for what is going on around you.

As soon as you recognize that you are in control of how you ride or drive, the safer you will be out there.

Like I taught my son's when they were learning to drive; being right doesn't keep you from being dead. When the light turns green, does not mean go. Always be willing to give up your right of way. When another driver is doing something odd, give them plenty of space.

You can not control what other drivers do, you can only control what you do out there.

Skill keeps you on two wheels.
Situational awareness combined with skill keeps you out of harms way.
ATGATT helps when all else fails.

This is my last word on this subject. It is up to you whether you take it to heart and alter the way you interact with others on the road.

About a month ago I was travelling on the Trans Canada Highway (in my SUV) and a large loaded fuel tanker "B Train" (2 trailers behind a semi) passed me. I could see something weird with one of the inside dual rear tires on the second trailer; it was going flat!

I backed off and gave him plenty of room as he was unaware of it. He's got 24 to 30 tires on his rig; is he going to notice one going flat? I followed him for about 15 miles before I turned off but hot smouldering chunks of rubber were flying all over the highway. I could only imagine getting hit by one of those while on a bike!
