"HA" Story thread... gone to gun thread

The Alaskan is shorter, lighter, and carries better for all around carry. I would not get it for hiking in bear country...Also, being able to shoot .45 colt for practice and expense is nice.

Why not go for the X-Frame S&W 500 Magnum? You can get it in 4", 6 1/2", or 8 3/8". Double/single action in SS. If I hiked in bear country I wouldn't leave home without it.

I have a .444 Marlin and .30-06. I love that Marlin. it shoots 5 shots under 1"(as small as .75") at 100 yards from a bench. Not bad for a lever gun. The .30-06 is good too, Just doesn't shoot quite as tight.

"HA" Story thread... gone to gun thread

Its amazing how this thread went from a great story by glwilson about him riding with a HA, to info about the size & make of fire arms we carry or should have in our possession. All the info is good info. I just had to laugh inside when I realized how true the game GOSSIP or TELEPHONE really is, I know how hard it is to stay focused or on track. Not bad mouthing anybody, I am just having a good laugh. By the way is there a way that I can mount a rifle scabbard on my Nomad.

Don't mess up those sleek Nomad lines.....Just sling that rifle across your back and ride! You're right, this post was hijacked to the max. :) I bet Greg is laughing and wondering how we got here too. The rope with the steel ball reminds me of the "What's in your wallet" commercials.

And Im getting ready to go duck hunting, I just went over my Winchester Model 12 and its all set to go. We can't shoot lead anymore, so I use steel shot but don't like doing it, as I think its a lot harder on the gun.

Steel shot was mandated here several years ago. Too many diving birds dieing from lead poisoning according to wildlife studies. It's more expensive and doesn't have the reach that lead does. Very hard on barrels not designed for steel. I wouldn't shoot more than one season in that Model 12. It will eventually throat out the barrel on that collectors item.

The most frightening sight though is a side by side double...

Well, if I'm not going to conceal it, I'll stick with my Mossberg 835. Five 3.5" shells of lead, or steel, coming at ya.

Shortly after getting married, Darlene and I lived in a small apartment complex. Another couple lived behind us and their relationship was very stormy to say the least. One night we were awakened to screams and things being knocked over and broken. My wife picked up the telephone to call law enforcement and she convinced me that I should knock at their door to prevent this woman from getting beat to death. Being young and brave, I went around the complex and knocked at the door. The guy met me at the door with a shotgun pointed in my face telling me "I don't have time". I got the message and slowly walked back toward my apartment until I reached the corner of the building. I then broke out in a sprint until reaching my apartment door where my wife was waiting. She told me I looked like I had seen a ghost! No, no ghost, just the very large 12 gauge tube about 6 inches from my nose. The guy was arrested and charged with beating his wife. I didn't press charges and never saw the guy again. I didn't miss him.

This weekend will be the 3rd time Im putting steel shot through the barrel, Im not real keen on doing it, but thats my only pump action gun. I doubt I'll put too many shots through it.Worse thing is that it has a full choke on it.
I think I may look for a newer shotgun for next season.

Sounds like the description of a women I met once...

Oh... by the way... as I was saying about the HA... oh, never mind...

OK... not all that funny, but it does bring up the thought that apparently we need to have a "gun-thread" on KawaNOW!!! ;)

Been using steel shot for nearly 30 years in old and new guns. No harm done.
Of course I only hunted about 6 times a year, and about twice a year for the last 10.

They are so busy talking to the other biker gangs. Almost makes you feel left out.
Ever seen the video of them raping to women at a rally in Spokane? While hundreds of other members looked on? Probably not. Just cause it didn't make the evening news doesn't mean nothing has happend. They do a lot of crappy stuff. Don't let what you don't hear fool you.

Sorry - I'm catching up on this thread. When I married my wife she owned a Kimber Pro Carry II and a Colt AR 15. We use the Kimber for our home defense gun. I use Glock at work everyday and have two of them. I am a HUGE Glock fan, but I will say you need really good fundamentals to shoot them well. They are not for everyone.

Someone mentioned the military going from the Colt to the Beretta. The other part of that decision was the fact that the Beretta was a 9mm. If I'm not mistaken they decided on the lighter load to be a little more "accomadating" to everyone.
