Vibration Maybe ?

ok, It's about time I ask this question. I have had my nomad awhile and for the most part run a lot of 4th gear back roads twistys. it's always felt sorta like brake pads just about gone rubbing on rotor ( note this is without brakes applied ) normal riding down the road. all my brakes and rotors are fine. it's just a description of how it feels. I can feel it in the grips and floorboards. So also another way it might be described is a dry bearing feeling. Ok, now when in 5th gear it is a completely different bike all smooth. I just kind of figure it was the nature of these bikes ?? only thing I might think it coud be is U-joint ? It's nothing severe it's just there

If it was a u-joint you would feel it in every gear. When Is the last time you had the swingarm off and greased the bearings and checked the u-joint and side play ? Tire out of balance? Something loose?

I haven't done that yet, I am very soon though. No, tires are all good even have changed them, so rules them out. nothing loose that I have noticed.

Mine seems to vibrate more in one gear or another at times.

These bikes are noisy and have little nuances, such as unexplained vibrations.

I read a lot where people say these bikes are know to be "noisy". I'm known to be a paranoid worry-wart. So I'm sure you can imagine how much I question my bike.

When you say they're noisy, is it common to hear what almost sounds like an engine knock at idle?

Pretty much.

Try puling the clutch in and see if it lessens.

I wish it was that easy. But like I said, I'm a worry-wart. Besides, I already have V&H Bagger Duals.

If it is stock and still has the idle solenoids they a big source of knocking noise at odd times, mostly idle. start the bike with right side dog bowl removed and you will see them clacking away. You could just remove the wire to them and see if that is the noise your talking about.
