Route/trip suggestions. RI to GA

Taking 3-4 days to get to Atlanta from Rhode Island, and am looking for route suggestions. So far, I know I am hitting the Blue Ridge Parkway, but other than that I am not sure. Hoping to skirt NYC, stay inland, and keep the route "somewhat" direct (without just slabbing it the whole way). Suggestions?

Also, since it will be the end of July, and probably very hot, what weight oil would people recommend. Is the 10W-40 I usually use okay?

The 10W-40 should be fine but if it is time to change you might want to add in some 20W-50. My last change I did an equal mix of 10W-40 and 20W-50. So now after the mix I am running 15W-45. It has been in the 90s for a long time here in the south.

Can't really help you on your route. Blue Ridge Parkway is a nice scenic route though. Glad you will get to ride it.

It's time to change, 3500 miles (early by my standards), AND I have a case of 10w 40 (valvoline motorcycle) oil that I got for a song on sale, waiting in the garage for me.

Any more route/favorite roads (on the way) suggestions out there?

I guess it depends on where you are leaving from but to avoid the city I would take either the Tappen Zee or the Newburgh bridge, both are north of NYC then 87/287,78 to 81 down to Front Royal. From there you can pick up Skyline, to Blue Ridge which you could stay on all the way into GA, or drop on to the slab at various points along the way to make time.

If you have four days to get from RI to ATL, you have plenty of time for lots of great riding. You might as well do the entire Skyline/BRP ride and there's no reason not to hit The Dragon and the Cherohala Skyway and then turn south at Tellico Plains to finish up the short distance to ATL. Have fun!

If you going to do the BRP (and its well worth doing) whey not add on the 104 miles of the Skyline Drive which runs into the north end of the BRP. Adds 104 miles or scenic ridge top riding without a stop sign

The Skyline Drive states in Front Royal, VA and joins the BRP at mile post 104.

Thanks for the ideas and suggestions! Ended-up having to ditch the plans to ride down, but WILL be doing a trip that way next season, and will surely take the advice given here.
