2nd Annual St Jude Ride Peoria to Memphis

I am so pumped ... last year the local (be nice now) Harley (Walters Brothers) shop got a fundraiser together for St Jude Children's Hospital and over 50 bikes made the trip from Peoria, IL to Memphis, TN and gave lots of money. Well this year there are over 100 bikes and a buddy got me (us, can't forget the wife -- after all she bought me the Nomad ) in this years RIDE !!

Other than

• raising the $1500 (already made $275 in the first 15 minutes of getting the good news about the ride)[/*:m:w7bf1v7a]
• and the fact that the wife and I have never ridden that far (almost 500 miles I think -- I know that is nothing for you true [/*:m:w7bf1v7a]IRON BUTTS out there)

WE ARE SO<marquee>EXCITED</marquee> about the ride.
We are riding for an 8 year old named Lexi (more to come about her)

Just wanted to share what we consider very good news ....
also I'll get a chance to show the other Harleys, how nice a NOMAD really is!!!! (and great reason to get more stuff before the ride -- you know the got to haves -- more LIGHTS, cup holders, GPS, ;) , etc)

SO I will be looking for tips and tricks for colder weather riding, as it is in Sept (18 - 20th) such as engine and people chaps, etc.



Sorry to have rambled... but had to post my news...

About 250 miles a day is the most I've ever made my wife ride, and we took breaks about every 80~90 miles. After that she was toast.

I hope yours fairs better, because 500 miles in one day is a LOOOOONG ride on a bike. Even on a Nomad.

thanks... hoping they break it up quite a bit due to the number of bikes in the run... etc.. also I know that we stop the night before then regroup to ride into Memphis and the hospital "fresh" the next morning for days events.

Good luck on your ride, Its sounds like it will be a good trip. As long as you take a few breaks to stretch, the miles just roll up.

Thanks, since it is not until Sept, I am going to ride a bit longer now a days when I go out.. in fact, Saturday I will do about a 400 mile round trip stretched out all day.

Looks like we will ride to Dyersburg TN (Didn't I see someone from there on our board?) then ride in fresh to Memphis for a tour of the hospital and such then hit Beale (SP?) street and go back the next day.

The most I've put on in a day was prolly around 400. Maybe a little more, but if my memory serves me right, I think it's about there.... I would like to go for longer runs, but the wife can't handle it. Her back starts to hurt...so, we end up stoping too often for me. I like to ride till I need gas!!!! LOL!

Had the first meeting yesterday and it looks like will be a police escort to the Illinois/Kentucky border. Also seems to have many stops for the 100 bikes going.

Thanks, we think so too. We are going to let Lexi (our friend's grand daughter) "Lexicise" my Nomad (problem with that is that she loves PINK... so how do I tell her no... :-)

If you get a chance, here is another clip talking about Lexi. She is such a little fighter, it breaks our heart to see her go thru such terrible times.

My wife, Robin, and I are participating in a motorcycle fund raiser for St Jude called the 2nd Annual St Jude Ride Peoria to Memphis . It is a motorcycle ride from Peoria, IL to Memphis, TN, a 3 day ride to benefit the children of St. Jude Research Hospital, as well as the St. Jude Midwest Affiliate, located here in Peoria.
This event is especially important to us, due to the fact that a
good friend of ours, Alexis (Lexi) Helfrich is currently being
treated for cancer thru St. Jude. Lexi just turned 8 in June. Her
treatment would not be possible if it were not for St. Jude.
