I'm glad you got the bike back Mark. Now go break it in.

Really sucks Mark but I am glad you are getting her fixed up! She got you to civilization at least before she let out her last gasp.

Mark --- In hindsight, would it have been cheaper to buy another motor? If I ever have to spend 3 grand on the bike, I'll sell it for scrap first. Just not worth it to me. I've learned my lesson.

While they had the trans open anyway, I had them swap out the clutch spring for the "Mean Streak". That made the only difference that I can tell so far. I did get a few rides in on Patricia's C-50-T while we waited, so it was really nice to have Grace back.

Is the C50 a 750cc? Or bigger?

Given the circumstances, I made the only choice that got me riding again. I only had about $3K available to get back on the road.

A "new from Ma Kaw" motor + installed would be a lot more. A used motor would come with too many questions that I already know the answers to on Grace. (bought new + pampered maintenance)

Patricia and I have an agreement that all future purchases (other than real estate) will only have one payment. (C.O.D.) If I ever do trade Grace in on a newer model She still has to be good mechanically to get the best trade. So a "New Grace" was out of the picture x2.

The only other option I had was to sit on the side lines until we could afford another motorcycle. (possibly next year)

That and the idea that I really like my motorcycle a lot the way she is I would do it all over the same way.

I was thinking a used motor but since you've had Grace all her life, I guess there wouldn't be any question as to the condition/maintenance of the motor you already have. Glad to hear you're back on the road.

Only 24K miles when she broke, full synthetic since 600 on the odometer, all service and maintenance on time and at the dealer, full open throttle only 5 times ever. (3 of those were on a Dyno) I don't even use "cheep gas".

Glad you're back on the road! Just goes to show that even with sensible service and good riding habits, sometimes shid happens. I think most on here would have chosen the same repair option you did! Now, go ride again....

Got out for a few more miles today, got home at 107°. It's 112° now on its way to 113°. I really don't enjoy the ride at more than 110°. At least now I can choose.

Mark,
I lost track of this thread for awhile...but I am very glad to see you have your bike back. That repair bill sucks, but its only money...it's the bike and the feeling you get from riding it that makes memories. Glad to hear you are on the road again and wishing you could have made the run north next week. Keep the shiny side up my friend....
