I have a 2005 Vulcan Classic FI and had the clutch done about 5000 miles ago. From the beginning I was having a problem with it. when it was cold and I'd come to a stop it wouldn't fully disengage for approx 15 seconds. It would do this everytime until I put 5-10 miles on it.After that it worked perfect.

So I took it to another shop and they said they had no idea what could be causing the problem. They tore it apart and told me I needed to replace the frictions/ steel (because they were slightly blue) the push rod and a couple washers. Now they're telling me it was missing a HOLDER part, part #13280-B. They claim it was not on the bike when they tore it a part.

Could this bike of even run without this part already being in the bike? I looked it up and it looks huge so how could my bike of been riden without it? Or could it of been missing and caused my original problem?

Any body know what's going on with Robert. I'm trying to get a set of washers, sent him an email through the link in the gadget page a week ago. Just wondering if he's out of town or something.

Don't want to deflect this thread... but I have to say guys...

What a great thing it is for you to help this man out -- especially MAS for offering parts.

Hopefully he can get his ride in order soon. I feel for him, since it is his only transportation.

Again... great to see this happening. My hats off to all of you for stepping-up!

I posted a thread a week or 2 ago about my clutch slipping. I followed everyone's advice and changed the fluid in the clutch and brakes. Bike ran great around town. I took her for a long hard ride yesterday and after heating up I was coming back into town and at each light the clutch would not engage fully, meaning the bike kept wanting to go forward at each stop light. I was squeezing it against the grip and holding the brake. Is this the spring or the clutch?
Also, I agree with GLWilson...great group of guys to help others out!

Are you absolutely sure there is no air in the line?

It sounds like the fluid is getting hot and either air or moisture in the line is keeping it from functioning properly.

If it were the actual clutch or spring it would be constant.

The only link in this situation that can change is the fluid.

I pumped it till there were no air bubbles and it ran clear. I can try it again, but I did the brakes too the same way and had no issue.

Did you guys clean the clutch reservoir ? If you did you may have clogged the VERY tiny return port. it is easy to do .Just a simple check before a panic teardown .. without holding the clutch in crack the hydraulic line . if fluid pours out thats the problem if it drips ..clutch time

Also check the small adjustment wheel on the clutch lever, its numbered 1 to 5 try other settings with it because it does make a difference.

Steve, I was thinking about that when riding home today.
